130tc Heater Cable removal

Hi guys - just checking-in as to the best way to remove the 3x 130tc heater cables from the interior side (the old ones have frozen up)

- I have disconnected the engine-side cables from the heat / direction / fresh air connections on the heater-box in the engine bay.
- My question is, do you just remove the front panel and yank the whole unit out, or do you need to "go underneath" and remove via the under-stereo area?

I cant see if the end-cable "kink" right by the panel is the only thing holding the cable, or if there is a white-plastic screw-connector a/p the heater-box end in the engine bay.

Any general advice on how to remove without wrecking the rest of the dash would be appreciated ! My hands are laden with cuts/scuffs so far and im at wits end!

Also - has anyone found a source for the old "fibre optic" panel lights, ie the bulbs with the magnified flat ends. I have replaced mine with a standard lamp and the switches are barely visible at night (ie the rear demist and other switches)

Cheers

Hamish

Re: 130tc Heater Cable removal

Firstly, nice 130TC !

Getting access and those cables out is tricky.

The official procedure is:

o Remove stereo and all supporting cages etc.
o Remove out blanking plate using a small screw driver releasing it from the six securing tabs
o Remove the control knobs from the flap levers
o Remove the front shield
o Remove radio housing cover (below controls/above radio) with a screw driver
o Remove control unit via opening

I had to do this when the fan speed switched overheated and melted.

Thanks so much for that - bugger - no shortcut !! Luckily shes only got the drivers seat in at present, to give me a bit more wiggle room. Cheers !

Cheers Rich! Been a long road, but v keen do do another - maybe a “160TC” ground-up concept, a series-3 if you like! Thinking style-wise similar ground effects to the Beta Bertone concept pictured with Integrale corporate style/details from the last Evos. In black. 8 valve. Could be fun!
