Indeed.

And this raises another interesting dilemma for us owners of these cars that are still in good/excellent/concourse condition.

To my knowledge there are only two (that I know of) excellent condition MKIIs in NON RESTORED state. This means that generally despite a little wear and tear the original orange peel paint, birth marks (they all had them) are still present to this day. Being "original" generally increases the vehicles value over a fully restored one. (all subject to unrestored condition of course).

We had ours on an agreed classic car policy below the 15K value the one you are referring to went for at auction. When we enquired about putting ours up to 15K the price when through the roof for a limited 1000 miles per year.

This year, after making enquiries with the Insurance Ombudsman about "market value" and the fact that these old girls just don't appear in a Glass's Guide etc. their statement and support would be that "market value" is just that and if you can prove/justify market value is £15K then that is what they would support should a dispute come to them.

So this year we put ours back on Fully Comp, standard market value and declared that value to be 15K. Have also substantially increased the mileage, the excess has been decreased and still with full business cover. Required premium dropped by over 50%.
