The Update Continues!

The next step was the doors.

The right hand door was a very sad chapter on the car.
The rust on it was severe and we looked into a possible fix,
but then decieded it was better to find another solution to this.
I found a door that was fitted once on a 105TC, not a convertible.
Best of all, the door was free of any rust.
We said lets try to cut the frame of the door.
When the cut was about to be done, we saw that there was alot of strain on the fram and the cut would not be as good as we hoped for.
In the end it was no panic and the result of it all was beyond what we hoped for.

Driver door was actually in very good condition.
Just underneath the glas there was an earlier repair, I might have told this before.
It was sanded down and partly reused the earlier repair in order to get a perfect result.
The door has was painted in a basic paint and now waiting for the real color to be sprayed on.

Went down to the garage today to find the doors are now all painted in this really cool color. It looks fantastic.

So the bonnet is now the last thing to take care of.

Then it's time to start this project of putting everything back together again.

Feels like I'm 5 or 6 again, playing with my legocars! LOL
but still soo much fun!

please drop by again for more updates

Been away for work for a few days.
Last time I saw the car, that was last Friday,
the doors and the front wings were dismantled from the car.
The wings had been painted aswell as the doors.
My plans were to start putting my legocar back together.
To my surprise Igge had done the doors and the wings.
What a difference already :D

sorry about the crap pics.. the car is very dusty.. but atleast you can get the picture of what it looks like! :D

I had to start to puttning the pieces together! :D
Just to see how small things come together and how well it came out in the end. As we said: funny how a few lamps can make such a difference.
Feels like we're more than half way already :D

The front ;)
The bumper is just placed on there to get the an idea on how it will look in the end. Found some rust on the front barrier underneath that needs some welding done to it.

One thing I'm missing from the grill is the ABARTH badge aswell as on the back.. Anyone got some?? ;)

Went to the car today with the interior.
Been trying to give it a really good touch up & clean.
The interior will be fitted soon. But so far only the outside.

Fitted the wheels I wanted for it. Had them on my X1/9 before.
The Ritmo has been sprayed with the same Micablue color, and I knew it would be a perfect result. When we actually fitted the wheels it was a new car.

The back windows have been refitted aswell, one of the arms that runs the window had rusted away. A new piece has been welded on and will be fitted very soon.

On the front the bumper has been fitted again, after that the barrier sitting under the engine has been welded aswell, we just found out it was worse than we expected.

More pics will follow when we get more updates!

until then enjoy!

hi, you have done an excellent job. I also have a Strada Cabrio and it also needs a little restoration. You have given me some very helpful info - so thank you.

Can i just ask if you took the convertable roof off, and if you now what rivets are used to refit it as mine hasnt been fitted properly. And do you have any advice for someone restoring this car - is it worth it. Was it really expensive to do etc. your reply would be very valuable to me.

thanks, mike

Hi Mike!

Thanks for your kind reply, glad I can help.

Reg the roof, we didn't acctually take to roof off.
The only thing we did was releasing the screws on the sides in order to be able to paint the whole sides.

Just make sure the screws on each sides are properly fitted, this is due to the stregnt of the roof and especially the rearwindow which is in glass.

Tips for what to do? what are you planning to do?
