Our new Qubo

Thought I'd better introduce our new acquisition.

It's probably the last (or possibly penultimate?) Fiat Qubo ever registered in the UK - 26th June 2020 - unless someone here knows different? It was probably made towards the end of 2019, at the tail-end of production.

We found it on the internet at Motorvogue in Norwich, a mere 225 miles away from us. It had been sitting on the forecourt ever since, with just 22 miles on the clock. Apparently, the people who bought it didn't like the colour, so asked the dealer to change it for another - that's the story, anyway.
It's a Lounge manual with the 1.3 Multijet Euro6D 80PS engine, in Rockabilly Black. I would have preferred orange, but beggars can't be choosers.

We part-ex'd our 64-plate Fiat Panda 4x4 1.3Mjet for it (both vehicles bought unseen, just using photos - so lots of trust involved on both sides). Motorvogue delivered the Qubo to us, and swapped over to the Panda for the drive back. So, if you want a nice 64plate Panda 4x4 with a brand-new propshaft and a towbar, just look at Motorvogue's website.

Apart from the lack of spare wheel, the Qubo has everything we need - so aircon and parking sensors - and apart from Start/Stop, none of the modern gizmos we don't need.

We owned a Qubo before in 2010-2, so knew what to expect, and so far our impressions are very good. It's really the Missus' car, as I still have my trusty 2009 Doblo for all the rufty-tufty fetching and carrying, but she is chuffed to bits with it, and even though it's not run in yet, it's already pretty quick.

For me, as passenger, the front seat is vastly better than the Panda's, and it's less noisy too - and, of course, it's got far more space. It may not look anything special, but I can't understand why they weren't more popular. The fact that Fiat never advertised its existence, probably didn't help.

Anyway, that's our Qubo - you'll be the first to hear of any problems we encounter...!https://www.fiatforum.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Re: Our new Qubo

Are you saying there are no more Qubos being made?

Quite a few brand new in the Turkish Youtube video I watched even showing CARPETS in the new models. Wow - they'll be fitting cruise control as standard next (in my dreams)

I remember asking about a newbie a couple of years ago after the Govt. had turned again on the once-favourite diesel having nailed the coffin a bit tighter shut and the info I heard was that there were no more diesels planned for production - I've had two since then!

As for 'pretty quick' the 80PS is very much nippier than the old 75PS engine. Presume it's the same block with a remap? It's now like it should have been and it moves like it always ought to have - without needing a booster box.

Hope you are happy with it. My latest Qubo Lounge (Nov 17 model) suffers from the same thing as the previous Feb 17 model, the back doors rattle. I took the earlier one back to the local Stoneacre under warranty and they said they'd cured it but they hadn't. Eventually it settled down as I hope this one will. Side roads and around town are the worst as the potholes/rough surfaces set them off. Motorway is relatively silent (soundproofing is way better just in the period of months between my two) and driving is great! Silent until I get round to installing the new Pioneer HU (with the welcome return of a CD player!) Hopefully a link to follow on the 'how-to' and the proposed successful transplant.

Re: Our new Qubo

So far as I am aware, the Qubo ceased production for the UK market towards the end of 2019 - of course, they probably still make them left-hand drive, and I believe the Fiorino is still available here.

No rattles as yet - they will probably start when the weather improves! My Doblo tends to get various squeaks and rattles when the rubbers become harder in dry weather.

We've been impressed with the sound deadening: much better than either Doblo or Panda. And the headlights are superb.

So far, so good, then. Long may it continue!

Re: Our new Qubo

That would seem absurd given how many of the generic shape are on the road. I bought Fiat as they had the best write up of the 3 body style makers for superior mechanics and passing the Elk test!

It seems to tie-in with Haynes reluctance to produce a manual for the 3-some although someone mentioned the running gear's similarity to the Punto but I like a model specific manual really.
Ho-hum...
