Re: Dualogic question

Hi

Its a manual gearbox..

will conventionally have a fill- level plug half way up g.box casing

Usually at front..facing headlight..occasionally at rear..

Probably need a 10..or 12 mm allen key for the plug

Acess to the Robots oil tank is probably a case of removing the 'baking tray'

If you take a few pics as you go through it thst would be great

To be honest unless theres been signs of a fluid leak I'd let sleeping dogs lie, unless you plan to change the gearbox oil anyway.

If wanting to mess with the Dualogic hydraulic fluid side of things then you'll need to have a registered version of MultiECUscan to calibrate and bleed the system as part of the process

Re: Dualogic question

If you have the 6 speed M20 transmission, level plug is right below the shaft speed sensor facing to the front. The plug is 10mm hex if i'm not wrong. There is also a filler plug (8mm hex) on top of the transmission, under the battery tray. You can fill it up there easily and verticaly if you're not lazy enough to remove the battery tray.

And like others have stated; you wanna change your GEAR oil, but NOT the HYDRAULIC oil.

The reason you wanna change the gear oil is because these M20 gearboxes are notorious with their bearing issues so keeping the gear oil clean is recommended for them.
For the hydraulics side; if you replace that oil, there is a chance that it can leak because the new clean oil will have a cleaning effect on the old seals. If that happens and the system loses pressure, you'll be stuck in Netural.
Change it when you are overhauling the dualogic unit and/or the transmission...

Oh is it not an M32 gearbox? I know they have bearing failures left right and centre.

What oil does this gearbox take? Iíll change that at the same time as serving the engine on Dads Qubo in the new year.

They are the same family of transmissons. Only diffrence between the M20 & M32 is their max torque rating. One is rated for 200Nm while the other one is rated for 320Nm hence their name. If the stronger one has problems, chances are the weaker one has it too ... Well, all i know is that even mine makes weird noises when cold so i confidently say that M20's are affected too.

75W-85 with both API GL-4 and GL-5 approvals like Tutela Matryx(Fiat manual rec.) or Ravenol MTF-1. Where i live, MTF-1 is a bit cheaper then Matryx. You could even go the GM way and put GM 1940182 fluid but i wouldn't.

Re: Dualogic question

thanks for all the info guys - i've not got round to it yet - im getting old and cant be arsed fannying around in the cold - im not touching the hydraulic fluid just the gearbox - has anyone used any additives in the gearbox oil (i used to add ZX1 to the transmission on my Range Rover and it definitely made things smoother)
