Has anyone else tried to play videos on the qubo/fiorino infotainment system?

I have tried youtube downloaded videos - mp4, converted to avi and mpg but none work - not much of an infotainment system if it wont play videos or display album art in mp3 mode either!

does anyone have any solutions or the pass code to the dealership settings menu?

not impressed with the radio system and takes ages to read the card each time its switched on - cant scroll albums via steering wheel either - only tracks.

If yours is anything like the Daiichi (basic radio) unit in my Qubo it's hopelessly poor.
I have to do my own auto tuning
I have to know frequencies of tin-pot local radio to get traffic reports
The wait time for it to come on is >20 seconds
Touch screen is press hard screen
Channel change scrolls through frequencies instead of jump straight to
Reboot after engine off (when I'm staying in the car) is again a full 20secs+

I too wondered about the settings in case there's something in there to enable a better working radio. It's almost as if it has functions but the user interface is there for show and like a 'Close lift doors' button, they're connected to nothing cos they sure don't work on this unit!

Yesterday I thought I must begin looking for something better (i.e.'any other head unit') but not sure where to start and is a wiring kit always going to give me steering wheel controls. Can I get a good radio/CD player again? Don't want satnav as my Tomtom is perfectly good. DAB not necessary.

Any hints or suggestions welcome!

We have the same unit for sure as I dont have satnav option in my Trekking - nor do I want it!

The slow boot is a real pain as you say and it annoys me no end not to have the album covers of my mp3 music collection showing on the screen. If they can show a musical not symbol then surely they can show album art?

Got videos to work now using a conversion program called prism. If you convert videos to .mp4 (even if it is already an .mp4 it wont work without further conversion on codecs) and choose mpeg4 codec it compresses the file size down and the videos play perfectly. I tried .avi/divx and they played after experimentation with codec options but dont play smoothly as file sizes larger I assume.

When driving, the video screen goes blank and a warning comes up saying its been disabled for safety but the sound continues. when coming to a junction and stopping, the picture comes back again so it senses motion somehow.

There is a menu that we are not allowed in to and I expect if we got in to it we could alter some of the settings re safety warnings etc. I dont see the point of video being disabled when driving as it would provide entertainment for passengers. I would be looking at the road not the screen - my default and recommended driving position and I do not need reminding of it by the radio screen. In fact trying to read it could cause an accident!

Finally had enough of my dreadful radio. Whilst still under warranty it's going in next Thursday for the local Stoneacre to mess with it. Interesting that the service guy (following my lengthy explanation of all the faults) asked for the service book and the locking wheel nut to be left in the car! I did remind him it's the radio that has the issues but he said they'd do any recall upgrades if they were necessary when they bring it in. I wonder if there are some and they will do them without notifying me (in case they're safety things?)

I did suggest just leaving the radio unit as it only needs a PSU but the guy said they'd need to look at it via the OBD - I doubt the radio will trouble the diagnostics at all!

I did add a wire to the radio live feed for a USB PSU under the dashboard top tray to drive my TomTom as there's no longer a Blue&Me anything or a cradle socket to hold the satnav so I hope they don't try blaming that for the crappitude of the radio, it is completely hopeless all on its own.

I'm guessing the ridiculous 20 sec warm up is so the unit can display all the warnings of death and worse on 2 screens before it gets to play the radio. It would be ok if it did that (maybe) on the first start of the day, not every single time you turn the radio on if it needs to do it at all. There is no nav built in to this unit but it shows the warnings as if there was. Worst move ever using this manufacturer.

I might ask if they can tell me what the Engineer's SD port shows them that I'm not permitted to view..if I learn anything I'll post up here. ;)

My after market head unite was the same but there was an extra wire that when connected to handbrake was NOT connected then video and album art could be shown all the time.
When I had the wire connected it would as you say just show a music note
There may be a wire you can snip so your headunit does not know your moving

I booked the car in at the service desk (having said at the time of phone booking it was still under warranty) and I was asked for any paperwork of the warranty... Got past that ok and then I was presented with a sheet to sign saying I'd be charged £96 if they could repair it and it wasn't under warranty..

I read a book for 35 minutes or so and then I was called back to the desk. I was charged £48 as it only took 30 minutes (to clear the service code that didn't get done by my Indie garage) and I was informed that there were options not selected on the radio - if that didn't sort it I might need a new aerial!!!

I pointed out that I spend about 5 hours a day in the car and am very familiar with ALL the choices in the Options Menu (the cogs symbol) and there's NO WAY I had anything left off that should be on. If the Radio has LOC or EON enabled, it goes off on its own playing other stations randomly whilst showing the current station I'm listening to. Never had any of that kind of trouble before with a radio. I rather hoped it was a Monday Morning Unit and it could be exchanged. Only if I do it myself I think so I'll be on the hunt for a replacement 2U radio with a CD player (not satnav!)

I did ask about the Service Only rubber plug in an SD slot. The guy I spoke with said he thought it was probably for when there's a Satnav unit - this Daiichi unit is multi purpose I guess so the holes are in the fascia from the outset. I would not recommend the maker at all from my experience.

Re: Daiichii radio hassles continue...

Replying to myself (again) about this awful AWFUL radio.

I have now had a new(er) Qubo for 2 days - delivered Saturday and I drove it from the drive into the garage, no further until this morning when I drove my usual 50+ miles to my first job. Yesterday I tapped into the live and neutral to power the USB power supply for my Tomtom that resides in front of me, all working well (radio tested to see it came on ok and it did..)

Drove to the first job this morning. Radio did its usual flipping onto some random station whilst showing Radio 4 (it's either the LOC or EON on button that causes this malfunction. LOC for Local and EON for Enhanced Other Networks) I switched one or either or both off.

After my first job I then drove to a second job about 8 miles away. After finishing this one, the radio wouldn't work. Just a blank white screen ("FIAT" splash symbol missing.) Gradually over the next 5+ minutes the screen goes to grey and does nothing. I tried the reset button which simply turns the thing off. I can't believe a company that claims to make such amazing radio units which are everything to the modern car, in reality are so rubbish! Check out their website.

With the previous Qubo, Stoneacre lamely suggested it might be the aerial at fault. I gave the tech a look that told him he might as well try sticking two wires in a potato to start his car and save the battery... Imagine my surprise when about 4 weeks later I had a call asking me to book the car in to have the aerial changed! They changed it and the result - (need I write anything here?) Zip, De Nada, NOTHING any different.

I had a few (polite) exchanges with Daiichi (in Italy) about the problems with this unit. I outlined all the wrongs with it and was given suggestions all of which I'd tried. On reporting back the usual raft of failures (previous car) they stopped writing to me.

So dear Fiat-ers I'd like a unit recommending that will fit my car (2U), will work, will play CDs, will pick up travel info from the area I'm in, tune itself to stronger signals instantly as AF is supposed to do, not scroll through the entire range before starting again, work with the steering wheel controls and preferably come on when I press the on switch (or start the car) and not half a minute later. Sat nav not required. It's not much to ask is it?
