I have had my 'new' car a week today.
During the week I heard an ever increasing whining from under the bonnet and thought eventually it must be either a water pump bearing or the steering pump bearings. I stuck my head under the bonnet and it was definitely the belt drive side of the engine. I went to a Fiat dealer on Thursday afternoon as it was really noisy and on turning the wheels that indicated the steering pump/system.
Garage tech guy spotted the reservoir was well depleted. A top-up of fluid cured the issue but not the problem (of course).

Anyone with a Qubo/Fiorino had this issue? What was the failure? Pipe or a seal? Seems a bit poor that this is on an engine with 12400 miles on it. Thankfully a warranty fix, the car's going in this morning for diagnosis so they can do the repair this week.

If it was NEW you could anticipate the circulating fluid to scour out any trapped pockets of air.. same as in cooling systems ;)

But yours sounds as if it has a physical leak.

Been a while since I have dealt with hydraulic assistance..
FIAT cars have been ePAS for 20years ;)

Out of interest what age is this van..?

It was new 1st Feb 2017. (It's a Qubo)

Fiat garage reports it's a pipe union where there's a metal clamp that's chafed on a bracket and worn through the pipe. Guy said if it's a known issue the replacement will be slightly different.

Reminds me of the pair of pipes that emanate from the bulkhead and go to the rh side of the engine which split as the bulkhead doesn't move whereas the engine block does. My Fiorino had those replaced under warranty and the newbies were wire reinforced. Had the same issue on a later Qubo (out of warranty) and again the replacements were reinforced.

Anyway it's booked in on Weds afternoon for the cure.
