Does any of youse Einsteins know whether the newer generation of Qubos no longer has this particulat strut issue? That's to say, have the struts been redesigned? Or are the new Qubos merely reskinned old Qubos?

In fact, have all the standard Qubo problems been ironed out in the new generation? Or would that be just too much to hope for?

Thanks.

Yes it was too much to ask the qubo was just restyled.
Same old stuff underneath.

Its normal across a range of manufacturers.
If you know of common problems at least you are better armed to deal with them.
For example
vw golf mk5 door catches.
Don't ignore them when intermittently unlock. if it is left until door refuses to unlock a hole has to be cut in outside of door to release catch. Then you have to pay for the catch , a door skin, having the door skin painted to match car.

Qube o don't suppose you've got a link or can post a photo up of the 'improved' topstrut bearing mount do ya? :worship: when I look on ebay they all look the same to me.....

Hiya MTD, Guess all the old bearings should be long gone, way to tell is the new ones come with a thick rubber sealing pad which fits between the top on the strut and the under/inner wing, held in place with the 3 fixing nut/bolts which secure the strut at the top. Theory is the rubber stops the water getting into the bearing. Design fault means rain through the scuttle gets to bearing tops........I have silicon sealed a plastic pot, (upside down) over the whole hole area where these strut top/bearing locate......now that does keep all the wet stuff at bay..................
Cheers Qube O.

Hi ArthurM
Thanks for that and yes it appears we have similar standards.
My Qubo was not cheap when new (I did not buy it new) and for the money it appears flimsy.
Based on a van I can accept the short-comings although on a MPV I find it difficult.
It does have it's good points though and I will go along with these.
All the best and happy motoring.

Hi Qube O,

Pls advise based on the photo for mine top strut, should i need to diy to get the water away ?

Many thanks.

Scot

Hi Zron,
Short answer 'yes'. For the sake of a hour or so and a bit of effort, gotta be worth it. I removed the wipers/arms complete, then took the screws out to remove the plastic scuttle/grill, then got a couple of 'Mr Kiplings Microwave Sponge Puddings' from supermarket. Puddings were quiet nice, washed out the black plastic containers, really clean, let them dry. Made sure the top of the strut was clean of grease/oil. Put a goodly bead of clear silicon on the edge of the plastic containers, and positioned them, upside down, to cover the whole of the top of the strut, indeed pretty much the whole of the area within the raised collar. Pressed them down, smoothed off the excess lightly, job done. Now when it rains no way can the wet stuff get into the top of the bearing..............hoping thats one Qubo problem solved........Should they ever need to be removed, they could be pried off no real sweat, and then replaced with new ones.........
Cheers Qube O.

Many thanks Qube O!

make sure the top mounts are FEBI BUILSTIEN mine have been on just over 3 years and still ok
These mounts look completely different and are covered in rubber
luigi

Covered mine with some cut out bottom empty plastic containers found in recycle bin, like QubeO suggested, hope it lasts.

Otherwise the brand u recommended would be wise should that day comes.

Thanks.
