Afternoon all. The red auto transmission light came on whilst I was going round an island in 2nd gear. A message came up check transmission then 2secs later a message check lights. plus buzzer The light went out after about 3 secs also the messages and buzzer. I had done about 5 miles so the engine was warm. The oil and filter was changed 3 days ago courtesy of the garage who supplied the car. Could this have an effect on the gearbox if they did not use the correct oil. They say they did,or does the gearbox need it's own oil. Thanks all in anticipation.
? Lol lol

I'm not sure, i've not owned or driven a Fiat with Dualogic before. There will be others that can assist though, hopefully someone will be along shortly to advise where to check the fluid.

Issues like this crop up a lot, so there will be someone with the correct advice to help.

the gearbox is termed a dualogic..there are HUGE threads covering it's Pro's + Con's on the forum,

it's basically a normal manual g-box,
but with a ROBOT working the clutch , and shifting gears for you..,

so - the gearbox is just that - it will require GEAR OIL ,
and has a level plug halfway up it..,
AFAIK there is NO FILTER here.., - (did you have ENGINE oil and filter changed..??)

sat on the upper front edge of the 'box is a clear plastic reservoir ( often under an alloy "baking tray")

this contains the actuating fluid for the "robotics" ( selespeed fluid)

the level CAN drop and cause issues,
however there are several trains of thought about the CORRECT LEVEL to attain..

the system can require periodic bleeding / purging of the fluid around it's closed loop system,
done with electronic software - from the comfort of the drivers seat..!!

that's the basics of the system:)

However , your issue sounds like a dip in electrical power causing several sensors to report "low voltage".

in your shoes I would;

have a quick look under the bonnet ,
make sure there are no large puddles around electrical fuseboxes..

wiggle battery terminal connections

test battery voltage COLD - should be 12 V +

start engine , check battery voltage with it running , should be 13 V +

as long as nothing is OBVIOUSLY amiss ,
I would not be too concerned..

IF it does it again,
consider plugging in a fault code reader - just to see what the vehicles "Brain" thinks the issue may be,

Thanks Charlie Oxford for your very full and to the point reply. I have checked the battery 12.3 cold and 14.3 with the engine running. I will do the under the bonnet checks tomorrow. With the amount of water lying on the roads the past few days here in mid wales I guess some could have got on the electrics. It was only the engine oil/filter that was changed

afternoon all, especially varesecrazy for your ref to a low voltage issue on my Qubo. A bit of lateral thinking when I noticed that the rear offside indicator light was not quite as bright as the nearside indicator. I took the light panel off only to find that there was some oxidisation around all of the bulbs with all of them stuck in their holders. I managed to get them all freed, gave them a good clean all round and replaced the cluster. Hey presto no more transmission light on when going round islands. Loads of relief. Hope this may help others.

is it still behaving..??:)

Hi Varesecrazy. Should I tempt fate, but yes Qubo doing fine. It has taken a while to get use to the gear box but we got there. Having been on the forum a few months now have only just found out where the thanks button is. I've got age on my side.

The Dualogic, whilst not a full auto (in the true sense, no creep etc.) is ok for what it is. I found that I stuck with it in Auto for about 5 minutes before getting cross with it not changing up quickly enough (where I would change) so mine lives in normal mode and I change up with the stick when it should not when the dim computer says so. Left to its own devices it would rarely get into 5th! Also (according to ME-Logic) the economy is far better with me doing the gear shifts. It becomes an absolutely automatic habit after the first day or so anyway.

Odd though that it changes up late yet won't change down from 5th to 4th when it needs to (the juddering) which can be cured by giving it some gas but by then a drop down to 4th is usually necessary. I've asked before but never had an answer... is 5th on this g/box the same ratio as 6th on the earlier models? I don't like seeing the tacho at >2500 rpm at 70mph when on other cars this would be lower than 2000 rpm.

Must admit it has taken a while to get use to the gear change, this may seem daft but I think the gear change got use to the way I drive or is it me getting use to the gearing. I was told to ease off the accelerator when the gear changes and then accelerate. As another thought has your car got an E button ie an economy button as this makes the gears change sooner. There are many threads on the forum about the gearbox.

No need to ease off the gas when changing - you wouldn't with a 'real' auto so the same with the Dualogic even if you DIY - listen to the engine revs, it drops as it changes (like when you take your foot off with a manual clutch). I have the 'E' button on for if I choose the full auto bit but as it's only about once a year....

Hi,

I've recently bought a 2010 Fiat 500c 1.4 dual logic with 93000kms and a full service history.

I was driving in the early morning when after approx. 6kms the Transmission Fault WARNING LIGHT illuminated and began flashing.

The car continued to drive in gear though only 1 to 3 and wouldn't shift beyond 3rd gear.

I stopped by the side of the road and turned the engine off.

I immediately started the engine and no warning light and the car continued to drive normal and using all gear 1-5.

Any ideas ?

another message appeared as well.

"Depress Brake Delayed" Wouldn't start. I tried approx 2 hours later then started with no error message.

I’m also having the same issue with my Fiat 500, I replaced the brake switch but am still having the transmission alert show and unable to shift above 3rd gear. Any other recommendations please?
