Hoping one of you good people on here can help.....

I need to remove the plastic engine cover on my 2013 1.3 MultiJet 95bhp Qubo to gain access to the common rail multiplug to add a performance-boosting box. Have added these to previous cars in a few minutes but this one is a real problem - the plastic engine cover appears to be impossible to remove. It looks different to the ones I have seen in pictures online in that this one is an all-in-one plastic affair combined with the air filter housing - removing the air filter lid doesn't show any means of removing the rest of the cover. Pictures of others I've seen seem to show the engine cover and air filter housing as 2 separate plastic sections. Anyway there appear to be a couple of long threaded bolts one each side towards the front of the engine cover that are holding it down but I don't know how to remove these - they are very recessed and appear to need a long very thin allen-key-headed screwdriver to loosen them, they appear to have some kind of black plastic cone on top as well inside each recess. Picture attached - the car is only a couple of months old so have Fiat changed the design of this? It must be possible to remove fairly easily to gain access to the glow plugs, but apart from the above it all seems to be connected in quite a complex way to the turbo as well ......

Any help anyone can provide would be much appreciated - have spent a couple of hours trying to work this one out but to no avail.

Hi QuboWAV,
Welcome to the 'forum', and the wonderful world of the Qubist.

Sorry I don't know the total answer to your question, though no doubt some one will. But a part answer is those two long studs on the front with the plastic cone, the plastic cone is a mounting rubber/plastic bush that the housing pushes down onto, and pulls up off. There is also a rubber mounting at the rear, near the bulkhead, thats in the form of a circular ring with a lug on the housing that locates in it.

Beyond that I'm sorry I don't know, but guess its just a matter of disconnecting some of the pipe work, then lifting the housing off.............look forward to reading other more complete answers.

I should also say that mine may be different from yours, though the pic looks the same....near as.

Cheers Qube O.

Did you get this sorted? I'm now in exactly the same position. Can't access the connector with the engine cover on, but can't work out how to easily remove the engine cover!

I've just purchased a 2013 multijet 2 75bhp qubo and like the first member having problems removing the engine cover to fit a tuning box. It appears to be different from the mark one engine. Is that right? Noted one member says the common rail plug is easy accessed without removal. Can you advise, provide a diagram etc. Perplexed new member!

If it helps anyone else who finds this you do need to remove the hex bolts on either side of the plastic cover to get it off. I used a t handled hex set as they are recessed a long way. You'll also need to unclip the air pipes. It's not too difficult and gives you much better access to the various connectors and sensors. The whole plastic box comes off along with a piece of polystyrene (2012 multijet).

Just got myself a qubo, after having put my doblo out to grass. It's a 2011 multi jet model too and I just got myself a blue spark tuning box. I am having the same difficulty accessing the rail sensor, looks like the cover needs to come off. Is it a 3mm or 4mm hex key I need to undo the recessed bolts? Everything looks a bit more fiddly to do compared to my old 1.9jtd dobbie. Any advice welcome.

Hi.
If you have any issues with insurance at all for a tuning box then please feel free to drop me a line.
Regards,
Dan.

Well I eventually got round to removing the cover, very fiddly but using a 3.5mm torx spanner I managed it. The bluespark box works a treat, very responsive and still 58mpg on a run.
