Fiat Qubo Diesel ..

Hi daveukqubo,
Mine never drops below 50, even with normal shopping type runs, and I've had a good 60 plus with 4 adults and a full boot of luggage on a run. Fantastic I think !!
Take care Qube O.

What engine is fitted to the diesel Qubo? Do they have DPFs fitted

Morning Most Easterly Pandas,

My 09 reg, is a 1.3 MJD. At the time, June 09, when buying the car, you could spec a DPF which would be factory fitted at extra cost. I was already aware of potential problems caused by these filters, and so did not order one............hurra for me. Newer cars are not so lucky, and have them fitted as standard...........shame. Though I do have, which again was fitted as standard the EGR system, which up till now has given me no problem.

Take care, Qube O ;);)

Thanks for that Qubo O. What's the 1.3 block like power wise with the Qubo, not under powered at all is it

Hi Most Easterly Pandas,

Power wise I have no problem, mine is fitted with the 6 speed Duralogic Box, so gear change 1st to 2nd can be difficult to get used to, but when you do all is o.k.. The car will cruise all day at and above the legal limit, and go up long motorway inclines with no problem at all. I'm well used to being in the right hand lane on the motorway, going with the flow..........and having no problems doing so. On the A roads again no problem, climbs and pulls well. Bearing in mind that mine is the 75hp, it is a great engine, revs happily, and does the business.

Truth to tell a hard act to follow, especially when you take into consideration the excellent MPG, the versatility of the car, and two year service intervals.

It will take all four of us, and a whole heap of luggage in its stride, and perform as though its only got me aboard.

Take care, Qube O. ;);)

Our old Qubo used to do Edinburgh to Ulverston on 3 gallons, Door to door the trip was 214 miles, not to shabby.
Yep the Qubo M/J unit does give a pretty good fuel return, but there are engines of similar size, and in similar sized cars that will do at least another 10 to 12 mpg.
The Qubo needs a new gearbox, to give it a bit more go in the lower gears, and a 6th gear for economy.
Doing this qould put it in the Pug, Kia, Hyundai pack.

Whilst it seems a shame that the new Qubo only comes with a 5 speed box, (my Duralogic is a 6 speed), its power in 2,3,4,5,and top 6th is absolutely fine, I pass slower cars with no problem, just put your foot down, the box selects whatever gear it needs and the car fairly takes off with a rush of acceleration belying its 1300 cc, 75 HP power unit.

While a accept that other manufacturers can equal or best the mpg, their cars are not as big, versatile, nor do they offer 2 year service intervals.

Take care, Qube O.

It is a shame about the 6th gear missing on the new models...it can sometimes be a pain with mine can seem pretty sluggish in auto but seems to be a little more responsive in manual.....I tend to change cars every 3yrs (motability) this gearbox issue along with a couple of other things may change my thoughts on a replacement vehicle in the future

Morning folks, from a white and wintery, and very windy Scotland.
Your comments Qube O, are just what I meant, the 6 speed in the auto makes it a far better car to drive. We found with the manual that first and second gears had now go in them at all, and if you din'nt have your wits about you it could land you in troube at road junctions and roundabouts.
As for the cars I listed above I think if you check, you will find that the 308, Venga, and Ix20, if not being about the same are lightly larger than the Qubo
The Qubo does come into its own when the rear seats are removed though, and the large tailgate makes for easier loading.
I do think in this day and age where economy and mpg are on the top of everyone's list the sth gear would have put the qubo right up with the rest.

Cheers Ian ( now away to shovel snow).

2nd test .. motorway run A to B = 50 mile .. av speed 48mph .. av MPG 67.6 .. from my two tests ive done in my fiat qubo mjet i take it i could get i think at av speed a little more lower you may get approx 70mpg + - or 74mpg + - all seats out but not drivers lol .. this can be done .. also i have roof bars removed.

**** me. Wish I'd got a Qubo Dualogic now. My Bravo Dualogic averages 51mpg on my fully account

Capable of 70+ MPG my arse :(

Are any of you Qubo'ist on fully recording your mileage and MPG

Morning Qubist all,

Always have recorded my MPG, I even have every fuel invoice from when the car was new. Never drops below 50, even in a week of 'stupid' use when the car goes for 2 mile, stops, goes 200 yds, stops, goes another 300 yds, stops, then another 2 mile back home. Each stop being at least a hour. Shopping.........I hate it.

On a run, fully loaded 60 + MPG, no probs.

Best I ever had was just shy of 69, when coming back home from Wales, stuck for miles in a convoy behind a slow moving cattle truck.......

More than 'Happy' with mine.

Take care, Qube O. :):):)

Hi All, my first post, so please bear with me if there's already an answer to this!

Bought my Qubo second hand about 4 weeks ago (1.3 MJ, 75bhp, manual) with 55,000 on the clock. I cannot get even 50 mpg out of it, no matter how gently/slowly I drive it-I've changed the oil, oil and fuel filters, run injector cleaner through with a tank of fuel, brakes are not binding at all and I don't have any roof bars on!

Having had a panda with the same engine and couldn't get it to do less than 55mpg, to say I'm peeved is an understatement!

Any ideas, Peeps?

Hi Philbee

Welcome to the forum. Are you doing mainly short journeys, the reason I ask is when I do short journeys they tend to be between 45 and 47 mpg, but as soon as I take it on a journey longer than 30 miles the mpg sits between 58 - 61mpg if on a dual carriage or motorway.

I am happy overall with the mpg considering the Qubo is underpowered and has all the aerodynamic properties of a house brick.

Best of luck.

The Panda is a much smaller car. The engine is having to work a lot harder in your Qubo. Harder work = more fuel used.

Thanks Monkeyboot and M.E.P for your prompt responses, much appreciated!

Took it from Sheffield to Hull and back (about 70 miles each way) driving below speed limits all the way, struggled to get 48 mpg indicated - I've checked brim to brim and the computer is within 3 mpg of actual consumption.

Regularly commute from sheffield to worksop, around 20 miles mostly on dual carriage and motorways, still can't above 46 mpg. Are there any know issues with Air Mass sensors on this engine - I had a VW pdi which had the same problem and improved dramatically when I changed the sensor?

Does anyone else find the gear change extremely vague, or is that another fault I need to fix?!

Regards
Philbee
