Hi, don't own a Fiat Punto myself but a couple of mates have bought them and seeing as I repair their cars I thought I'd better swat up a bit!!! LOL. Actually I have one of the cars here now.......It's a 1994 (M) Fiat Punto 75, 1.2 SX Multi-Point Injection, 8-Valve, 5-Speed manual..........the car kept over heating on him (although He promises me it never ran dry...), someone told him it needed a new water pump so off he trotted to the local motorfacts, purchased a new pump, a Haynes manual and some gasket sealant. Luckily for him he decided to have a quick read of the Haynes, and on getting to the section about setting TDC and timing marks he decided to call me!!! I have tinkered with cars since I was a teen ( long long ago...), and am confident in most jobs I've done on cars. What's the problem then? I have never worked on a Fiat!!! Anyway, I've fitted the new water pump, and a new cambelt, but the car will not start. Have checked for a spark on each plug and all are sparking well. Have pressed the fuel cut off thingy too. Now I'm wondering......the battery was totally naff, have replaced that too with correct spec battery for this vehicle, but the car sat for over 2 weeks with a dead battery, would this reset, or do something to, the ECU? Oh, and he doesn't have the RED KEY either!!!

Ok, thx for that. Oil filler cap has small ammount of custard in it but on other makes this can also be due to short journeys, condensation if vehicle sat up, etc............can i check for head gasket leaks visually?

id just buy a compression tester, they dont cost alot, £10ish, but i might be wrong saying its not starting cos of that, im just saying it cos iv seen cars for sale on ebay and they said the car does not start cos the head gasket has gone :)
