i've got a GT back axle for my '99 sporting, for the rear disks, but want to balance the front with the GT calipers (and use the tarox vented disks i got with the back axle).

i just need to know if the wider calipers a straight swap, as in mounting lugs and caliper carrier offset. they're ATE calipers on it atm. i've noticed stilos and bravos appear to have the same calipers as the GTs, but do any of you know if they are a direct swap and can be run with GT disks?

also, will i get away with keeping the sporting master cylinder? i appreciate the GT calipers have bigger pistons, but is the difference within limits?

i suppose i could technically have a dig in the scrap yards, but it's bloody freezing!

any help much appreciated

You'll need to double check this but, iirc from the research I did when upgrading my punto 60 to sporting discs, the gt calipers and discs fit - discs are the same diameter as the sporting but, deeper 'cos they are ventilated. So you must fit gt disc with gt calipers.

The rear discs are a different size so cannot be used on the front. In short if you have your flash discs on the rear beam you cant' put 'em on the front. If you have flash discs on the front you'll have to sell 'em and use gt disc caliper combination. But, check with someone else

I can feel a visit to the breakers coming on :)

Thanks for all the help, there are quite a few cars to choose from! (just need to find them now :) )

i got the GT front vented discs thrown in with the complete GT rear beam when i bought it - but didnt realise at the time that the Mk1 sporting calipers weren't wide enough or i would have had the front GT calipers too!:bang:

will the mk1 sporting brake master cylinder work ok then, even though the pistons are bigger on the GT calipers? (wont bottom out and stop braking on me?)

i had thought about just getting a GT brake master cylinder to be on the safe side, but the GT's have ABS and my Mk1 sporting doesn't will this cause problems? or do i not even need to bother?

No problems at all. My car is a GT conversion, when I built my car I didn't swap the master cylinder as they are both the same. I did fit the ABS to mine however.

But saying that I have done two other GT conversions without installing the ABS, using the standard Punto master cylinder and brake lines but fitting GT calipers. Both of these have worked perfectly fine.
