Hi to all, wonder if you can help me out? My Green air filter is looking a bit old and tatty and am looking to get a nice new one (or possibly go back to standard).

What are the best filters/kits you can get for the GT for under £100,noise and powerwise?

Many thanks,Amy.

Anything like a K&N, Pipercross, Quickshift etc cone will be fine and set you back about £50.

BMC is another one but they arnt as cheap.

I did a search on here and people were saying K&N werent very good,is this right,I thought they were quite a big name??

It was a garage that told me to go back to standard coz my idleing is a bit poor and they said the mods werent helping it,do you think this is a wise idea?

Some people use K&N's and find no problems with them, some people just rather Pipercross, also people are talking about certain models but on a GT it will be fine.

I run a open air filter on my gt and the idling is fine.

Ive answered questions to your idling problems before have you tried all that advice ?

Also you havent really explained your problem in enough detail to just give you a straight answer and even then it might not be possible.

Is it possible you can get a video of this problem and what the rev conter is doing and post it up ?

I can try? Basically i took it to a 'supposed' gt specialist today and left it for 3 hours so he could have a good look,he put it on the computer and no faults showed up.He checked the pipes and all are fine.He cleaned up the icv and afm and to be honest it is idleing a little better, but he said neither were showing a specific fault.

This is what he told me it could be:

ECU failing
Injectors worn or dirty (i have already tried redex but gonna try again)
Engine getting tired coz its done 96k
Modifications (i only have a green filter and dv26 on it)

His last words were unless i was prepared to spend a lot of money on trying out different things, then not to bother with it coz it wasnt worth it!

Well try.

Isnt there anyone local to you with a gt that you can swap things like afm etc over with to see if the problem stops.

Could be a number of things, did you try a fuel filter after ?

Whats it like starting it from cold ?
Does it cut out randomly slowing down or when pulling up to junctions ?
Do you get the injector light on at all ?

You could try putting your std air box back on and see if its any better.

Fuel filter def needs replacing anyway so will get that tomorrow.

Unfortunately i dont know of anyone else who has a GT where i live, plenty of sportings but no gt's,so if anyone out theres reading this from norfolk with a gt,plz get in contact!?

From cold it revs about 1500,unsteadily,then drops, then revs up again until it finally settles (again unsteadily) about 800.Engine sounds pretty rough and judders if you're looking at it.It never cuts out touch wood, and my injector light doesnt work so i cant tell you.I dont have a standard airbox as i bought it with the filter on.

Well i said before that an old fuel filter could be causing rough idle, change it and see if its anybetter.

What i ment was is it hard to start from cold.

Also why isnt the injector light working ?

If its just a bulb get it replaced as this will tell you if there is a problem.

As for the air box forget that just try the things that ive already pointed out in this and your other threads.

Nope it starts first time everytime, just doesnt like ticking over.

I'm not sure why the light doesnt work,i did change the bulb but no difference!

I will def change the filter at the weekend,is this an easy job?

Check it again make sure your checking the right bulb and swap it with one that works just to see otherwise (but not the air bag one)

The injector light looks like a little hose with water comming out of it if you didnt know what it looks like. (Its one of the group of lights/bulbs inbetween the bottom of the speedo and rev counter)

Fuel filter is an easy job, its located under the drivers side rear 1/4 panel area. when when you fit the new one just make sure the arrow is pointing towards the front of the car.

It was def that light that was changed and i got the garage to do it with a brand new bulb the exact size, but still not on! Possibly dodgy wire or something??

Any idea which fuse?Thinking about it there are other lights on it according to the handbook that i've never seen light up,stop light, airbag light, seatbelt light and the light between battery and handbrake which is a circle?

What you mean by stop light ?

Below the indicator one you have the air bag on the left and injector light on the right.

A round one in the battery and handbrake light section could be the ABS one.

I get the indicator, but not injector or airbag.I'm just going by the handbook but apparently there is a stop light under the keycode, oil and open door sign?Which lights light up on yours when you turn ignition?

Dont know the stop sign or seen it or even seen it in the handbook.

Air bag one should come on when you turn on the ignition and go off, its prob been taken out because it was on all the time otherwise.

Injector light should either come on and go out or come on and go out once started (cant remember exactly because i drive more than one punto)

Oil light will come on and go off when started.

Battery light will do the same.

ABS light should come on and go off before starting.

Door open one will come on when the door isnt shut, as long as the ignition is on.

Handbrake one will come on when the handbrake is applyed or its low on brake fluid.

Sounds like you need to go through all your bulbs and fuses.

They all come up bar the injector and airbag,i'll check fuses tomorrow.Stop light def in the handbook, and seatbelt light but dont know if its actually on the dash.

Well ive looked in the handbook and cant even see it.

As ive already said injector and air bag ones sound like bulbs so check by using bulbs out the others and try, otherwise check fuses.

Anyway, back to my original question! I have seen a stainless steel Quikshift kit for £55 and wondered if these are a better standard than the cotton filters, anyone have one? Or am i better off saving my pennies and getting a GSR or BMC? Just need maximum cold air flow to my engine coz what i have on there now is pants!

Like i already said any of them will be fine.

You could always just get a cleaning kit and clean up your old filter.
