Patient: Fiat Punto 55S - 1995 - 1108cc - MKI
Ok, guys... I think i might have some strange electrical problem with my engine.
Usually the engine works just fine. When i start it up, the auto choke kicks in and maintains the revs up until the engine warms up.
Now, since a couple of months ago, when i start the engine i sense that the revs stay at a lower level than normal - no auto choke.
Then, when i press the gas pedal, the revs go up as normal... but, when releasing the pedal - while revving down - the engine almost stalls, like a big hiccup! It actually makes the gear stick and car shake…
Sometimes when I stop the engine and start it again, this goes away.
Anyway, even after driving back home (around 20 miles) this weird issue is still there. The engine is warm and the ‘shake’ is less noticeable, but it’s still there.
I noticed that this mainly happens at night, after the car being exposed to a bit of cold and humidity.
For a couple of nights, while in neutral, the engine actually stalled.
My trusty mechanic has plugged the car in the machine and couldn’t find anything wrong with the engine. Spark plugs were changed and didn’t solved it. He told me it might be the injection system....
I’m thinking some electrical issue – bad contact anywhere…
Any ideas?
