The Haynes manual is very helpful in that it explains what kind of bulbs are used in the instrument cluster (bayonet fit etc), and also how to safely remove the cluster etc, but doesn't care to mention how many bulbs are used in the cluster!

So, to anyone who's changed the colour of their dial lights, how many replacement led-bulb thingies did you need?

Is there anywhere you can reccomend that sells BRIGHT led's for this application? If I can get the lighting bright enough, I'm hoping to stick to black dials with blue lighting :) Are the bayonet bulbs a standard size for all vehicles, or do different cars use different bulbs?

I figure the 501 fitment bulbs fit in the instrument cluster on a mk1 punto, right?

If you take a look here , here, or here, you'll see that someone is selling packs of 10 to cover the instrument cluster, heater controls, clock, and multifunction display. Is this accurate?

It'd be nice to have all the lights blue (well, except maybe leccy windows etc, too fiddly and unnoticable), but from the haynes manual I guessed it took ten bulbs to do just the cluster!?

Getting the whole lot done for £12 sounds a little too good to be true!

no, it wont take 10 to do the cluster, theres probibly about 5 dial lights in there, the rest will be for you dash lights etc(code, battery, hi-beam indicator)., you wouldnt want to change the colour those would you????

I think they should stay the colours they are, though maybe blue arrows for the indicators would look ok... if keeping them green means enough leftovers for the clock and fogs/demister buttons though, that's what i'd go for :)

after checking earlier i think there was only 5 bulbs for illuminating the dial and the rest is for dash lights.,,I think blue indicators would look good but keep in mind that some of the lights have to be a certain colour for the MOT.,., just incase your due soon..,,

I was trying to figure out which ones they were from a pic you posted in the guides section without much luck lol!

i figured the one in the middle of the temp/fuel gauge, the ones above and directly to the left and right of the speedo, but there doesn't seem to be anything around the rev counter area

How successfull would be to simply change bulbs with the colored ones (or leds)? As far as i heared, it's the dial itself that makes numbers glow green or in other words it's not fully transparent to make the light change easy. I'm asking because i have original purple dials and would like to insert some white leds but i'm not sure will i get the same green numbers just brighter :)

edit: just read the dismantling guide... Great stuff vtec, just what i needed to try it myself.

thanks yoopie,
MtDT, about the lights in the rev counter the clear plastic thing that the dial facia is sticky taped to is there to bend the light and spread it around.,., much like fibre optics.,.,

I tried to change my lights and put yellow ones in,however its still lit up green as its the dails that supply the colour, not the bulbs, the bulbs only light up and the green is the dial so no matter what colour bulb you put in,it will always be green,if you get me!

unless i did it wrong!

LOL!

Exactly that bugs me most... Friend from Croatia used white leds for instruments on Vectra, this is what i'd like to make (preferably without changing original dials).

when io got home from work my new blue leds for the dash lights had arrived so i thought i would install them

upon removing the dials i found there were many bulbs on the otherside, as a result i have managed to have no lights one side, a few bits of green the other and some strong blue in the middle

so i was wondering on one of the above photos that could possibly have arrows doodled on it to let me know which bulbs need to be changed to allow the dials be lit up blue
