Hi all, I need some expert knowledge....
I have a 1.6 Punto convertible (with a few mods of course!)#

THE PROBLEM...
I recently cant get my car started, when I try starting it with my blue key the yellow key code light stays on the dash and making it impossible to start. I think the immobilser kicks in.
I also do not have the red key or know its whereabouts. My ECU is inside the car under the dash where the footwell is, i've noticed some kind of water leaking on the ECU from the cleverly designed heater.

I have been quoted about a grand to change the ECU and key locks, before I even dream about spending that kind of money, Is there any way of turning the immobiliser off to see if the car can start without buying a new ECU.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP, a poor man whose car has been off road for about 2months!!

appricate your help, but unfortuantly the person i bought it
off didnt give me a handbook, all i have is a mashed up car with
a mashed up blue key!!
Any clues on how i can actually get it started, i dont mind even hotwiring it, if someone out there knows how, just to get it moving to the garage.;)
Ive tried resetting the ECU by disconnecting the battery for 1 hour
but still the same problem.[}:)]
Does anyone out there know how to bypass the immbiliser??????:D
Surely there must be some kind of way, of atleast getting it started,
how on earth do people steal cars if its impossible[?]
Or if anyone knows where a crashed 1.6 punto is so maybe i can just buy the ECU and keys of that and transfer it over to mine.;)
Thanks!

yes there is away of turning off the immobilser tryed and tested.
your ecu is f**ked, i bet open it up you will see corrosion on one of the little arms i don't no what there called.
all you have to do is get a new ecu or reconditoned one and put that in now underneath the steering wheel is where the immobilser is connected.. before you put your new ecu in you will have to disconnect the immobilser wire. im not sure which wire but let me no when u have done that then i will find out for you

Damn right im good in bed i can sleep for days!!!! :)

when i ment underneath the steering wheel i ment where the fuse box is. and you live in clapham iv just noticed.. well take a little trip down to wimbledon there is a place called southern carbarrators (sorry for spelling) they know eveything about the 1.6 ecu's trust me there really good plus i think the woman there told me how to turn off the immob!! yes a woman so ask them. its near south wimbledon station and i don't have the number. they will giv you £30 back after your old ecu you giv them has been reconditioned. and i think a new ecu from them cost £120 so sfter all that you will not have to use that chip in your key anymore!!

Damn right im good in bed i can sleep for days!!!! :)

Thanks for your help mate!
Yes you were right water leaked straight into the ECU and caused corrosion! out of all the places you'll think Fiat put it there on purpose.... cheers Fiat, another happy customer.

I just had some guy on the phone saying he can get a new ECU with 3 coded keys and new immobiliser for about £500... still half price than fiat..

But before i take that bargain up I think i'll be going to find that woman in South Wimbledon to see if she can give me some light at the end of this long dark tunnel.

no worrys.
iv had the same problem and done it cost me £120 and that was about 4 months ago my car is still runnin fine starts first time.
good luck

Hi found out the number of that place in Wimbledon and the woman is now a man. Anyway they said it'll cost me £200 for mine. What i'll get is a new ECU without a code, all i have to do is unplug the wires connecting to the immobiler and still use my blue key to start the car as the ECU will no longer need the code from the key to bypass the immobliser..... GET IT?? ANYWAY...
Is that how you got your car working?
P.S. Whats that Yates in Epsom like on a FRI/SAT?!!:D

yeah thats how i got my car started its actually very simple, the ecu is not coded but if u put it in with the immob still workin then it will learn that code and you will probably hav to start it with the red key. so all you gotta do is to unplug the immob where the fuse box is( not sure which wire) and stick the ecu in and you are away.
Yates in epsom is ok if you are 15 it the local youth club. but there are a few lanes girls around epsom if you don't know what lanes is its the dance and the perforamnce arts places where victoria beckham went to before she was in the spice girls. so very nice women and lots of gay men so not much competion for the straight man!!

Damn right im good in bed i can sleep for days!!!! :)

dont tell people how to get it stated [:0] dey ma come and steal are fiats ! thats if they can get past the force feild! two of my mateys from work go to that college and funny enough i through dey was gay before i started getting to know them propperly...dont u need id t get into yates

Punto 1.6 Turbo

Hi guys!

About that Yates, i must of went down there a few years back and it sounds the same as its always been!!
Quite a few girls, lots of wine ..... long drive back home via Epsom downs!!!:D
after everything (including a fag) i got pulled up for having my fog lights lights on. There was the old chap about 50ish giving me a lecture about blinding someone with the fogs, nothing said about me doing 70 down the country lanes, ended up with me trying to blag it, yes officer, no officer.... anyway he obviously knew what we were up to and he bloody gave me on the spot court summoms, £60 fine in the end. Never seen him since, lonely old bastar*

Anyways heading down to Oceans in Kingston, gota bit of cash to splash and some gals to impress!!;) watch this space for an update!!

Oh forgot to say...

re: ECU

just for info for anyone experiencing the same problem...

You can get a new coded ECU
a new immobiliser that works with the ECU
New lock set (all locks ie ignition and doors etc)
1 x coded red key
2 x coded blue keys

half the price from Fiat.
I rang a chap on 01949 836 362 - Phil
give him all details he needs ie ECU numbers
he quoted me on a 1.6 convertible about £500 all you need to do is send him your old ECU - takes about 4 days

OR
what ive done thanks to sexybluepunto on this forum ive taken his advise about getting a non coded ECU. with this you unplug the immobilier before plugging in the new ECU, this will not require a code from the key to disable the immobilser as you are teaching it that there isnt one and will start up the car first time.... i hope. they have sent my ECU off to get reconditioned into 'virgin mode' . take them about next week wed 10/03/04. once i get it back i'll let you guys know about it and if it works.[}:)]
