hi i'm looking to change my 55ssx punto to either a 75sx or a 75elx can someone please tell me what the differences r between them

mainly the engine has alittle bit more power, but also a few different bits, colour coded bumpers, elx has steering wheel controls for the standard radio and 1 touch window for drivers side, different interior pattern.

Not really worth the upgrade imo unless thats all you can afford.

55 to 75 is a good upgrade :) still cheap insurance too.

i have 75sx, which has more than enough things tbh.

il give you the FULL spec on both ;)

75sx-

5 speed gearbox
opening rear windows (both 3 and 5 door)
twin side impact bars
front seat belt pretensioners
remote rear hatch release
rear wash/wipe
4 speaker stereo
tinted windows
height adjustable headlights
internally adjustable door mirrors
electric front windows
central locking
height adjustable restraints
front fog lights
side rubbing strips
rev counter
digital clock
illuminated boot
front and rear anti-roll bars
tint and slide sunroof

elx also has-

one touch drivers electic window
electric sunroof
remote locking
coloured bumpers
centre console
pollen filter
6 speakers (6.5" in front doors)

tbh, id pay the extra for the elx (says he with the sx :p ) as it is nice stuff, because i got sx, iv now had to put centre console in, im looking for new door cards, remote locking etc.

go for the elx if you find one, they are fairly rare though, more 85elx's knocking about (group 3-4, wheras 55's 60's and 75's are all group 2, unless its an elx, maybe a group 3, but we're talking peanuts of difference here).

the elx also has nicer front and rear seats, they have more prominent bolsters (like 16v sporting and gt models), soft headrests front and rear. leccy windows, leccy sunroof, centre console (darker model with darker dash), nicer door cards (both 3&5dr) 6speaker stereo with wheel controls, also often have a driver airbag on 85elxs,
AND THE ELX's ALL HAVE THICKER CARPET THROUGHOUT AND THICKER BLACK MATTING STUFF THAT DEADENS SOUND!!!! so they ride much queiter, i.e less road noise
later 85elx;s (75's died out before the end of the mk1 proper) also have body coloured door handles (3&5dr) and body coloured mirros (GT3 style, the best:worship: :worship: ) and the plastic thing on th boot is also bodycoloured. they also have the shorter more modern wippy aerial rather than the (always) bent dull black coathanger aerials. they have GT front lights (seperate high and low beam, so give a better light pattern as well as looking much better). they have 14" alloys (not as nice as 16v sporting alloys but acceptable, with 165 tyre usually), they have remote central locking (often broken though),, sometimes ABS on 1998> models (all 98> 85elx's get all this extra goodness), and as an optional extra there was a/c, although I've only ever seen two cars with this, a T reg sporting, and a V reg 85elx

and THE most important addition that elx's get.
A BOOT LIGHT!!!!

I have the 75sx. Great little car. Not really had any major issues with it in 3 years.;)

thanks to everyone who replyed it has given me a better idea on which one i want i would love to go for the 85sx with the 16v engine but my insurance company have got me over the fence for that model. i think i will go for the 75sx and put the punto sporting interior in has anybody done that here?

nope i've know decided to get the 75elx as the are better equipped all the the info u have given me has been a great help. oh beau_4076 if that ur pic of ur punto that looks really nice would be proud if i could get mine looking like that

My T reg had one... it's most definitely THE most annoying thing about my 60S... (n) it's the little things you miss!

I would shop around for Insurance quotes, different companies are looking for a type of driver, if you get massive expensive quote it is usually an indication they don't want to insure you so give an outrageous amount to put you off.

My wife just passed her test and the quote ranged from £800 to £460, she went with Lancashire Insurance in the end. Try getting a quote from http://www.confussed.com , they will check various insurance companies. If you are a new driver or do not not have any no claims discount best avoid GT or sports models as the insurance companies will hammer you.
