Hello, :)
I am buying fiat punto, looked several already.
Yesterday I was trying '97 punto selecta, gave it test drive, it had manual transmission, but later I found out here on forum that selecta model is CVT.
On the back of the car there is usual plastic letters 'selecta'.
Otherwise it has: servo, elec. wndows, 5doors... that's all.

What is up here?
Someone please help, I need to make fast deceison.

well it sounds like one of the previous owners has put a manual gearbox in it, this is failry common! infact theres someone asking on the forum on how easy it is to do (y)

At first I dodn't know about selecta model - that it is automatic, later found that 'selecta' means 'automatic' in italian.
Yes, I browsed and found that someone was interested about replacement, and finally gave up!
Anyway I was suspicious about quality of such surgery and abandoned selecta. So from tomorrow I will be proud owner of punto 55sx (I suppose 55sx since it says 5555 on the back (y) ) 3 doors, sunroof.
I will be missing two extra doors, though, and soft clunch and gear lever feeling, although in 55sx it is not so bad.
I also missed PAS and nice green metalic color, so, hm, I am steel in doubt:(

But I played safe, I think:confused:
Was my decision to forget modified selecta rational or paranoid? What doYou know about such modifications? Can it be good as new:confused:

if done by a garage yeh its the same as having a manual car and you wouldnt notice the difference. but like all things, if bodged together then yes you could find problems, but generally it would of been done properly as like has been pointed out, auto clutches dont last and cost £500-£700 and a manual conversion cost around £300-£500, and last alot longer.

I'll never find out, saleseman even didn't bother to mention taht anything was replaced at all!
But something new bothers me:( . I can't always throw 55sx into first gear on first attempt. I have to release and press clutch and try again (somethimes this is not necessary, I just try again with clutch pressed). I understand that this is quite common prolem, but how complicated is to fix it. I heard it is better to leave as it is.
Also, I drove fiat brava 1.6 and gas pedal feeling is just perfect :spin:.
What can be done to make it same on punto 55sx?
I would appreciate any expirience, thanks in advance!

Still better than old Renault 4!;) I still own R4, I'll drive it again these days, because I don't won't to get used to fast to this smooth drive feeling with punto:yum: .

:bang: :bang: :bang:
I'm kidding only.

But after 223km: fuel consumption 35mpg or 7.9L/100km.
City driving.

Is it truth that older models (mk1 vs mk2,mk2.5,mk3) are thirstier than new mmodels?
