Is it better to go for a 'big' drop 55/60/75 suspension, or a 'small' drop Sporting/GT lowering kit? Or am I being silly thinkin' that I can fit Sporting/GT shocks to a 60?

Here is my old punto mk1 (60s), lowered -40mm on pi suspension kit, sitting on 17" BSA manik alloys with 205/40/17 toyo rubber!

The rear tyre was very close to the arch and caught a few times, i had to trim front and rear inner arch liner too, as well as trim a bit of the back bumper! Other than that it was fine!

Nice car, but a perfect example of why I think the rear of a punto needs to be lowered less than the front, looks like you've got 3 people in the back already :(...

I'm looking at 15" rims wearing 175/55R15 or 195/50R15 rubber here

Its mostly due to the wieght of the engine over the front suspension setup, as most kits are for 55 / 60 / 75 / 85 etc, as the 60 is only a 1.2 it doesnt really have enough weight to pish the ssuspension down fully, unlike the 75 / 85 etc!

With 15"s you can lower -60mm no problems!

After a long (but factual) discussion with Pete from GSR, the basic conclusion was reached:

- The front needs to be higher as it does more work
- Don't lower more than 40mm, the strain on the drivetrain and suspension components becomes too great
- Don't bother with shocks and springs, the standard shocks are quite capable of handling -40mm. Shocks and springs for road use will make the car too 'skitty'.

He also has stock of -40mm Apex springs for a 60, as they were for me...until I wrote it off  :(

I need new front shocks, I've got a scrappy shock on one side purely to keep the car drivable but I don't really trust it, so I was thinking about a Blistein Streetline kit. The front technically might require less lowering than the back but, imo, visually it looks wrong!

ger, what kit have you got?

Here is my HGT, which has FK konigsport coilovers fitted, and is ride height and damening adjustable, so i can adjust to what is visually pleasing, and gives a low stance! It is lowered 60 - 65mm on front and 45 - 50mm on back!

is this more the stance your after?

gex18, about right, I'd have it a touch higher at the rear (probably more like 40~45mm).

Anyway what do people think for a Bilstein streetline kit considering I need to replace the front shocks? I hear that the Bilstein OE shocks give a better ride but are slightly firmer than the fiat ones, is this true?
