now, from seeing on here i see lots of puntos broken into by sticking a screw driver in next to the lock barrel, then they do something or another gaining access bending the metal away from the side of the barrel.

so was just thinking as a rather cheap way (and seeing as i have some here lol) putting exhaust paste round the edge of the lock barrel- when you heat it up, it goes rock solid.

so can you remove the door card, and spread a exhaust paste all round the lock barrel therefore when they try and get in with a screw driver theres loads of exhaust paste thats rock hard and they can get through it??? any idea? :) if it doesnt work then it only costs like £2ish lol

fg and some metal offcuts would be better

you need to protect the metal bar atttached to the door popper, cause that what they probably aiming for

EDIT - sorry i just realised i got no idea of punto locking mechanism , was basing this on my old uno which got attacked in this sort of way

basically gaz as with most cars with a seperate lock they just aim to pop the lock so they can flick the little bar that turning the key exerts an effort on thus bypassing the lock part.
TBH it surprises me deadlocks havent been stanard fro years on all cars.
mk 3 cavaliers had them as standard from 1989!

It dont really matter wot you do the strengthen it, the harder u make it the bigger the mess of the door after the break in, if someone wants to break in they will puntos are simple a hole to the left of the lock on the drivers side and then simply flick the catch up to open the door, as i found out when i lost my radio.

At the end of the day they'll get in whatever, just the harder u make it the less possible the door is to salvage only thing is to deadlock it, but u can get a cover that cover the whole lock area on the outside, mostly seen on white vans aint the nicest looking thing.

They simply stuck a screwdriver in the lock and got into my car, it was very quick. Its actually shocking just how easy it is for them to gain access

u cannot work the mind of a crack whore chav, they know mk1 puntos are easy targets they wont move on if theirs somehting they really want, they'll go for it, i would agree and say they would move on, but with the punto being made out of a tin cans, com'on we all know how easy they get carpark dints, if sumones after it they'll get it in a punto, if they dont their not a very good theif.

you could always de-lock it they would have to be good to find the right spot to find the catch inside the door then.

sounds silly but after my break in i bought some clifford alarm stickers of ebay to go in the bottom of the window for 2pound if it makes someone think twice their worth it.

Beau, did you get your own Punto? I missed that.

Is your area bad for break ins? I have a face off CD player and never leave anything of value in the car, I even leave the glovebox empty and leave it open. I wrap a big f*ck off steel chain and heavy duty padlock around the metal runners under the drivers seat and the steering wheel. The car is parked in Belfast every day (or was until recently) and I've never had a problem. Other cars close by have had windows put through and locks done. If you make it hard for them and show them there is nothing of value then you should be ok.

no i didnt :( kate just stopped replying and the ad dissapeared? so i presume she sold it to someone else :(

well i was just thinking of doing it to my sisters car because shes leaving her stereo face on the cd player :( so wanted to try and prevent it, and yeah id say southend is quite bad actually.

this happened to my car, went to a gig and took the face off the cd player, but i put it in the drivers side door hidden under aload of stuff, they got in by the lock, and it looks like a screwdriver has been used. they also went for the sub and amp in the boot, couldnt get it though as id put it in well and truly.

i thought id stuck the cd player in but they cut it out the ba*****s, you can see the cut marks around where the cd player was.

this has kinda made me decide not to do anything else to my car if its this easy to break in and when it comes to next MOT i think its bye bye to percy the punto.
