the rev counter works ! So does the speedo and so does the petrol gauge but the temp gauge doesnt work anyone any ideas ?

Cars in the garage having the cam belt done they quoted £140 plus the vat , I think thats a bit steep but I ahve no choice!

Hey Paul,
looking to do the same thing with my 60s was it pretty easy to do just plug and play. how did you wire the rev counter up? is there already wires present and just needed connecting up?

Josh

It took about 10 mins and the rev counter was working so the wiring must be there. There were 4 connections top left, bottom left, top right and bottom right at the back of the unit

All worked straight away accept the temp guage and I will get a sender from fiat for that like someone suggested

Can't believe you didnt have to do any work:cry:

I got my clocks off an ELX which probabaly didnt help, it was trying to get a power supply off of a pin on a plug that didn't exist, so I had to give it it's own supply from the clock one I think. In the haynes diagram they both went to the same fuse so it should be fine. Had to run a wire from the blue wire in the ECU loom (I think its the crank rpm sensor), ran that to a pin on the plug. Theres a good guide on another Punto forum. With regards to the temp sensor, go to Fiat and they'll charge you about a tenner for one. Simple to change. I went to my scrappy not long after and found a punto with the clocks and sender and I bet I could have paid alot less than a tenner for the sender!

Look at your oil cap, go to the back of the head and it is about 5cm down the rear side. It is covered with a right angled piece of plastic (which is the plug). Unplug that, then you simply unbolt it with a hex, forgotten the size. You'll have water come piddling out too, so do it when the engines cold or you'll get a nasty shock! Then you'll need to refill/bleed the system.

OK thanks , I will trawl around the scrap yards on Wednesday and try and find one

S model (flick switch type sender) have a white tail,
and SX model upwards with temp sender have a red tail, some are slightly longer than others but not important, all the same thread, just be carefull getting it out and back in, they are very tight, and I managed to mangle a few of them (softish brass) trying to get one. cost £1 in the end!! fiat sell them about £10, they don't seem to wear out though.

rev counter on later models will work (e.g. T and V reg jobs, as they have more or less the whole wiring loom inc fogs and roof clock etc).
on other models check out the guide on puntosports or puntoforum front pages, its an all blue wire in wiring looom coming from ecu, if yoiu have any probs just ask, as I have done it twice now

Mine is a 95 and the rev counter worked. I think the clocks are from a sx grey background and not red dials

Thanks for the advice it will be great to have the temp guage working as all the dials will then be correctly working!

A good T cut and then polished with Klasse All in one and then a coat of Klasse SG and then a coat of p21s canoba wax.

That photo was took in January a good 3 months after the last coat of Klasse Sealant Glaze the stuff last for ages once on the car .

I used to use Mguires but 2 rain falls later it was all washed off the car lol

These photos were took before and after (3 week gap of detailing)

slightly different light but not much and no computer touching up at all

BLOODY HELL

thats some shine you've got there!!

look's better than the 'rarri 360 modenna I saw yesterday, it was typical ferrari red, but looked like it had been parked under a lime tree or a bunch of birds, ALL the paintwork was blistered and dull, with loads of lacquer peeling off (never seen ANY red car look so bad), it can't have been old, but had been abused to hell.

Just nice to see a punto being treated better than a near new 360(y)

It was in a state when I first had it , the paint on the roof was like chalk ! If you use the right products it doesnt take much to get shinning properly

Luckily theres a family member who used to work for a classic car company and after 40 odd years of trying different products and traveling all over the world they came to the conclusion that that was the best combination for the best shine and also for lastability as a lot of polishes wash off after a few rain showers (autoglym , mguires are really bad for that)

does it make a difference then what clocks you take off (ie year) and what year your putting them in. i have a S reg 60s so am i bested finding clocks from a S reg 60sx......

cheers,
josh

At T reg, iirc, all the S models were upgraded to the S Team, which had the rev counter anyway...

I put rev counter clocks (sx ones not gt or sporting) on my 55s (1995) and they worked find with no mods at all
