hi, i have just bought a fiat punto cabriolet 1.6 which i love. it was quite cheap when i bought it but with a low milage (for an N reg).

i have a few problems though.

the main one is that in roughly 1 out of every 20 times i start the engine it will not start. this also happens if i have stalled and am trying to get the car running again. when i turn the key i can hear it trying but it will not go on, at least not until ive left it alone for an hour or so. i dont think it is the battery as i am still able to use the radio and the electric windows, etc. but i just would really like to know whats up with it?

another problem is the damn roof. it doesnt work automatically, i have to go out and physically bring it down and up again. after that im usually dead from exhaustion. anyone know how much a new motor for this may cost?? or even if that is the problem?

does the starter turn or just click?
as for the hood,you have checked the fuses?

yeah i have checked the fuses and they are fine. as for the starter, it turns once but thats about it.

the starter motor problem is probably a battery problem...

either that or the starter motor is sticking.

say i wanted to replace the starter motor. would i have to get another one from a 1.6 cabro or could it be from any punto? i was plannning to go and search around the acrapyard. loads of puntos there but never any cabros.

if its a standard 5 speed box then i would assume most would fit though im not 100%.im mobile just now so i cant check my EPER

hey guys i found out that the problem was the starter motor 'sticking'.i dont know what too, but thats what ive been told.

anyway i was wondering if i could fix this problem myself, and if not how to replace it if i buy one from the scrapyard. any punto starter motor will do right???

you can get one second hand from scrappy dont know if you can have anyone someone will have to confirm that. or they can betaken apart and cleaned its most likely the solenoid needs cleaning and regfreasing

any 1.6 punto one will fit,
