hi got a 55sx and just wondering what the signs of a cambelt being out.

My car has an annoying backfire type noise when u come off the throttle which gets worse as the car warms up.

The car varies in power also where the car will be nippy one minute then next day it seems to be less responsive.

Finally, theres a vibration coming thro the gas pedal when u blip the throttle as well as a vibration thro the drivers seat!!

Any help would be appreciated

Not sure what would happen if the cambelt slipped one notch but the above could be a sympton, I wouldn't drive it around to find out. You may also have a blown gasket or a misfire.
Check the plugs for general condition and see if they all look the same, if one is a different colour you are halfway there. Check the electrics over. Check for any fresh oil around the engine block. Any smoke, white, black? Run the car and see if you can hear where the noise is coming from. Let us know what you find.

One word of advice, vibrations can quickly turn into bangs and graunches so if you can't get an answer from here or a mate soon, spending a few quid in a garage for a check might save you a lot more hassle and pain later.
