Hi guys,

Just got a couple of these 1.4 Turbo Puntos.

A couple of things I can't find answers to are,

1) What is the firing order for this engine? 1-3-4-2 or is it something a bit more exotic?

2) does anyone know what the mark in the end of the crankshaft pulley lines up with when the engine is on TDC? I am guessing its the bit of casting around 10degrees clockwise past the Crank position sensor?

1. Yes, classic 1-3-4-2 (on some heads it was even stamped on the back, where spark plug are).

2. Don't know. I can only pass some timing numbers (same for 1,4 Turbo in Uno and Punto 1).
Intake valve opening: 14° before TDC.
Intake valve closing: 44° after BDC.
Exhaust valve opening: 36° before BDC.
Exhaust valve closing: 6° after TDC.
Ignition advance at idle: 10° ±2°. At maximum RPM: 34° ±2°.

3. All 8V Fiat engines have some common parameters, numbers, timing, etc. For example timing belt tools/locks for Grande Punto 1,4 (8V with VVT) are about 10 degrees too (camshaft lock). That doesn't prove anything, but worth knowing. It's a good "sanity check", if you don't have numbers for one particular engine, check the other, similar one from FIRE family.

There is timing marks yes..

And dont forget the phase sensor, you need to pull it out and turn it until the mark on the disc inside lines up with the line on the window, this can be super tricky to get back in without it turning, might take a few tries.

The mark you mention on the crank I think is the mark that is on the outer pulley which needs to come off to change the belt, its handy to line that up first though.

Good Luck!

Perfect!

Thank you very much for answering this for me in such detail. Have got the car running perfectly now ;)
