Not quite.

The KL / KKL / VAG-COM interface is an early OBDII interface used mainly on VW-AUDI vehicles. The OBD 16 pin interface can support various interfaces including KL (K-line) and CAN (Controller Area Network). These interfaces then have various communications protocols.

The Fiat 3-Pin interface is electrically compatable with KL but the protocol is different. As the VAG-COM KL interface is "dumb" it can be used with the Fiat 3-pin protocol. The "smart" interfaces like ELM 327 work with OBDII (16 pin) KL but DON'T with the 3 pin.

Confusing I know but it does make sense.

Ok thanks alot, but i ordered this 3 pins connector from alieexpress already: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/201...nostic-interface-3-pin-OBDII/32539202203.html

Is it gonna match with it if i buy it ? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FIAT-ALFA-VAG-USB-OBD2-DIAGNOSTIC-CABLE-ECU-for-MULTIECUSCAN-UK-DISPATCH/281876043346

My concern is, the black alligator clip is not there on the one that you showed me first

The black clip is optional as the 3pin wiring in the car includes a chassis (ground) connection. The red clip goes to a 12V supply e.g. battery terminal.

Last thing, i see on the forum IAW scan 2 softaware that can scan the vehicule also. What do you think about it? It certainly not as good as MES but it seem that it can do the job. It can show datas from the sensors and also errors codes... thats the only thing i need for the moment ....

Plug your car code reader into the diagnostic link connector under the dash (engine off). Then start the vehicle and follow the code reading procedure in the instruction manual.

I've not used the IAW software but it's designed for the 3 pin interface so worth trying. It should work with the same lead and adaptor as MES.

The question raised was about the earlier cars with a 3 pin interface (under bonnet). Your instructuons and most code reders won't work on this car.

Hi,
Multiecuscan is probably the best software www.multiecuscan.net

You can check your exact model here http://www.multiecuscan.net/SupportedVehiclesList.aspx. If the module is listed in red you need the registered version. Interface needs to be a USB (or serial 232) KL / Vag-Com type plus a 3 wire adaptor.
If your car has an Magneti Marelli ECU you could try IAW Scan http://iaw-scan2.sourceforge.net/

As I saw it, my ECI is from GM, and Multiecuscan can't read this model's engine ECU. What sofatware can I actually use in order to read the engine ECU?
