Hi folks

I've got a 2000 model year Lancia Ypsilon Elefantino, which is mechanically similar to the Mk1 Punto 85S and uses all the same mechanical parts.

I have just had total failure of the instrument panel display, accompanied by failure of the indicators and hazards.

I am going to start dismantling the instrument cluster shortly, but before I start I wondered if anyone else had had the same problem - I wondered if there was a big multi-plug inside that controls everything and had come undone (my car has a VERY hard ride).

Anyway, any advice or experiences gratefully received. Thanks in advance - Alan

My mk1 did a similar thing (has a spoiler with a high lever brake light) and the wiring shorted out blowing a fuse that in turn took out the instrument cluster indicators electric windows brake lights and a couple of other things so it’s definitely worth checking fuses. When I get to work I’ll have a look on our auto data see if I can find the 15amp fuse I had to replace

Thanks - a friend just said I ought to check the fuses! I hadn't done because I couldn't see a link between the two things, but this sounds as if it might be the problem. Thanks for the suggestion - will try it to see if it works!

Hmmm... interesting development now. Changed the fuse, and with the ignition off I tried the hazards. Nothing. Then I switched the ignition on and the instrument display lit up. Tried the indicators and they worked. Once. Then I switched the engine on and the airbag light stayed on and the indicators and hazards weren't working. Instruments are, though.

So now I am at a loss! Might there be another fuse governing the airbag and indicators? Although I can't see how 2 fuses could do the same job!
