Hi guys

Does anyone know the process for replacing the Alternator/ steering belt on a GT2? One of mine has shred the belt and I’m stuck on how to get Around changing it?.

Thanks

Hi guys,

Would any one have a hanyes manual or any details at all regarding changing the power steering belt on a GT?

Cheers

Hi Craig, I’ve not done one myself but you can bet it’s a bleeding knuckles job [emoji849], I have a porters manual which covers some jobs on the gt , will have a look after work [emoji1303]

i have done this.... its been a long time though lol..

I remember though the PAS belt, there is adjusters that move the whole pump up and down, you have to wind them so the pump moves down far enough to get the belt on and then adjust back again.

Again from memory if it has AC that has and entirely seperate belt as well that has to come off first. The alternator belt has a tensioner that you loosen off and that belt will come off.

When i was in there i did a timing belt and waterpump change too, now i can't remember if thats why i took the engine mount bolt out so the engine could drop down on that side or if it was to do with belts, but if you need better access you can do that.

Best of luck, nothing hard as such there, just GT'ish for access to everything lol

Had a scan through the manuals and it’s very vague not really much about it at all , just as blu says about slackening the bolts to pivot the alternator to remove the belt , it says you should have no more than 10 mm of play in the new belt pressing it between the pulleys, I guess you would remove the under wing protector to see everything better. Thanks Guys,

Well I gave it ago and didn't get to far with this.

Started with the Alternator as I noticed it was on sliders so managed to undo the bolts on the slider to find there was an adjusting bolt from the top stopping the Alt from moving. Managed to undo the bolt and fantastically it snapped (great).

But the alternator still wouldn't move. 2 1/2 hours in I see There is a alternator bolt under the idler/tensioner so that has to be removed to be able to undo/slacken the alternator.

But my thinking (might be wrong) if I take this idler/tensioner off surely the belt will come off also? Then just fit it all back on?

Autodata are saying todo the belt its 1 hour??

as i said before, my memory is a little rusty due to length of time ago but you don't need to touch the alternator itself to do this 100%. I never touched my alternator once so i know it doesnt need to move to do this.

The belt tensioner is a funny little thing, only one i have ever seen like it working on cars. The actual pulley is bolted to a triangle bracket and you have to undo more than one bolt for it to move. But you should be able to get the whole thing off and that leaves the belt nice and slack and able to come off. I think you can just undo the bolt holding the pulley on the plate too i think, you might want to replace that anyway...

I can't find any decent pics of the belts on a GT to point out what to take off, maybe if you could get some decent pics I can try mark on them what to do in what order etc.

Another thing i have thought... The crank pulley, getting that off is super hard - I advice you take the crank sensor off so you can get the belt off that one over trying to remove that pulley bolt ;)
