Going to look at a Punto GT tomorrow, its a 99 T reg GT3.
Anything in particular I should pay attention to?

From the ad it seems to have had a load of work done returning it to the condition its in now, and is pretty much all original apart from a few engine mods taking it to a claimed 170bhp.

Hi , is it the burgundy one on eBay ?
That one has been on for a while , it looks a good one that hasn’t been messed with .
They can be prone to rot on the floor, rear arches , also the filler pipe that goes to the petrol tank can rot , see if it boosts up ok , no smoke etc , usual stuff if you were buying a second hand car [emoji1303]

Ok , it’s top money but looks genuine , have a good check round it , is had a re spray but the rear bumper looks a bit out of shape to me , see if they have the original air box too .

Will do. Will try and get him down closer to 3 grand. There is another yellow one on eBay but it's miles away and ad says strictly no test drives which has put me off.

Yeah I’ve seen that one , let us know how you go on , prefer the standard look which I think will always get a better price in the long run [emoji1303]

Picked her up today.
Very solid car. Bodywork is very straight with just one or 2 little dings I will get pulled out.
Boosts up fine and drives really nice, no smoke or anything.

Couple of little jobs need doing to make it perfect....drivers side wing mirror is cracked and doesn't match the passenger side one (think passenger is genuine electric GT3 mirror and drivers is from an earlier Punto)....fuel flap is broke where it clips into body of car so need a replacement one....temp gauge doesn't move much off bottom so will replace thermostat and see if it's that....was some play in n/s front wheel, suspected ball joint but jacked it up when got it home and it seems to be the shock absorber as has play in it.
Was looking at updating the suspension anyway so no big deal.

congrats man, miss my GT so badly!!

bit late but all mk1 puntos are the same really imo when it comes to buying one, check for rot, rust is a big problem and expensive to fix if you cant do it yourself. Everything else is just simple mechanics and can be sorted really. I'd certainly prefer to buy a solid non-runner over a rusty but good mechanically car.

Best of luck with it chap, keep us posted on how things progress ;)

Hi tom , have you still got the gt ? it seems to be back on eBay.

Yep it went back to them. Very dodgy dealer posing as private when he's buying them as trade.
It had a forged service book and some of the invoices were fake. Threatened him with trading standards and he gave me full refund.

good to know.
Did you have any actual issues with the car itself or just that the guy was clearly a dodgy seller.

If the car is decent it still not a bad price i don't think... Did you report him to ebay at all? I certainly would have. My mate went to buy a BMW not long back and the guy was a dodgy liar, we found out it was a write off - he said he didnt know but the date it was down as being written off was during his ownership.. After some to'ing and fro'ing of messages we reported him to ebay and they closed his account lol.

I nearly bought this GT back when it was on Ebay the first time when it was looking sorry for its self. I bid £1000 and got out bid by £20 :(

But I'm sure it had a lot of history with it then when I was asking questions about it.

I understand being lied to ect is not good especially when you just spent a few ££££ but was there actually anything wrong with the car?

I'm not buying or looking to buy as I already have 3 :) but its just good to know for future reference.
