Hello !

Dear Fiat owners, I have a few questions, I wanna engine swap my Punto which is MK1, 1.1 55hp. I have donor car which is complete, no crashes, running and in good shape it's a Fiat Marea Weekend with the 1.8 115 16V engine. My first question is, if this swap is direct pull out my engine, put the Marea one, or do I have to work on the body? Second question is will I need to buy some parts or do I have to make them, I'm a third generation welder in my family so body work or modifications aren't much of a problem, but I don't have the time, especially during the summer. My Punto currently has problems with the injection, and it's engine isn't fast enough when I'm travelling, my university is 80km from home, I'm quite a bit on the road, and the bigger engine surely will come handy. :)

P.S. This forum is quite nice, a lot of decent information!

I don't think this is viable.

First of all the engine and gearbox have to fit inside the Punto engine compartment. The drivetrain may fit sideways but it will probably be too tall so the bonnet won't close.

Then you have to make engine and gearbox mounts to support the engine and gearbox. You may need to change the driveshafts because Punto ones won't fit into the Marea differential/gearbox and the Marea ones will be too long for Punto so the suspension won't line up with the hubs.

The Marea is maybe hydraulic clutch. Punto is cable.. so you'll need to fit the Marea pedal box (probably needs modifications) and master cylinder to the Punto. You'll need to make the Punto gearshift mechanism work with the Marea gearbox.

Then you have to fit an exhaust. The Marea header pipes won't line up with the Punto receiver... AND the Marea exhaust will probably foul the Punto radiatior. The Punto header won't fit the Marea engine).

Next you'll have to find a home for the Marea ECU and wire it in. The Marea ECU won't fit the Punto wiring loom. The Marea ECU also won't recognize the Punto immobilisor or key codes.

Then you have to fit a bigger battery since the Punto battery won't be able to crank the 1.8... but if this is the only problem left, it will be a piece of cake.. :D

Look at Bravo/a 1.2 or 1.4 engines. They'll fit much more easily. On the other hand... buy that Bravo/a instead.. :)

It's better to buy a new one then, I kinda like the Punto GT Turbo, light, fast, cheaper than most of the 130-150 hp cars, and it's a Punto <3 . Thank you for the information.
