Hi, I have got a broom yellow mk1 sporting with only 47000, but I have my suspicions on its gearbox, as it spent a lot of its life in a scrapyard. I think the man who had it before me put a normal Punto box in it. My question is how can I tell what box it is, I can't see any code on it like C514. Any help appreciated
Thanks

I don't know where it is but i am pretty sure the box should have a number stamped on it somewhere that should give you something to lookup online. But having never looked for it on one I have no idea where it will be.

Its not something I have ever looked into in any detail but i do know that a cinq sporting box for example is a C514.5.13 which i would hazard a guess at meaning its a c514 casing with a 5 speed box and 13" wheels.

To my knowledge the C514 box normally comes with the 3.867 final drive but can also come with a 4.07 final drive. And example would be the seicento sporting and abarth/schumacher models, the box is the same and has the same ratios, but because the abrth/schumacher came with bigger wheels the final drive was changed to make it not be slower than a normal sporting. But the actual ratios of the gears changes from car to car.

If you wanted to change your box then I would suggest a mk2 punto 1.2 16v sporting 6 speed box would be a good bet.

Ya I was thinking that having owned a mk2 for a while, cracking little car, that's why I got the mk1, have a whole parts sporting mk1 bought for 70 which has engine and box so I'll have a look there.
Thanks Blu for the reply, greatly appreciated
