What type of glue?

Anybody had this problem with the rear seat panels in a cabrio, tried spray glue and won't work. Any ideas please?

Re: What type of glue?

I'm pondering the same question. Unfortunately, my Cabrio was crashed into last Monday, resulting in damage to the nearside rear wing. It's fixable, but long story short, I'm now trying to gain access to the back of said wing to aid in straightening it, and began yesterday by removing the rear seat panel. I also intend to re-adhere the fabric to the rigid panel before reinstalling it in the car. If I find a good solution, I'll let you know!

Re: What type of glue?

Thanks for the link Blu. I don't need it for the Cabrio, but I do need it for my Jag headlining and my Renault 17.

Re: What type of glue?

I'd be very interested to hear from somebody who has used it. I went to my local upholsterer and he said he's never found anything any good as they are pressed as one piece when made.

Re: What type of glue?

I just did a quick google tbh. I do have a mate who does custom interiors and the like, had several magasine featuted cars under his belt - I'll ask him what exactly he uses as he even upholstered the bonnet on one of his cars and few years on its totally fine even having been used throughout winters so his glue clearly works lol.

Re: What type of glue?

I've just been out to my shed/workshop & among the many cans & tins I have found what I used in the past. ....Ultratape heavy duty spray adhesive. All I can say it worked for me. Off fleabay. Once you've done, turn can upside down & spray excess out of nozzle until nothing comes out, all ready for the next time....

Re: What type of glue?

It's not the glue that is the problem, the material that you're trying to stick the fabric to usually has very fine surface which breaks down meaning every time you try to stick it down the glue sticks but that fine surface pulls off the panel and is still attached to the fabric.

Very common problem in old leyland cars like jags and land rovers of the 70s, 80s and 90s.

I would wonder if something like gorilla glue is worth a try because you can apparently stick things to dusty bricks with that

Re: What type of glue?

Well if it's a case of degrading material, perhaps a change to something new may be the answer in the material department. Pictures don't always tell the whole story

Re: What type of glue?

I think a good scrape/clean of the panel may be the answer. Cloth is fine but the surface of the panel is "hairy"

Re: What type of glue?

I certainly don't want to sound picky, but on countless posts all we have to go on & offer advice is the posters description & some pic's at times. Perhaps I'm being over optimistic thinking that the preparation of said panels had taken place... Like most jobs preparation is key. In this case, hope things will stick properly.

Re: What type of glue?

Agree totally. I am going to have to do a thorough clean of the panel. I thought it would stick ok but obviously not. Any preferences on which brand of spray adhesive?
