Hi , I had the same problem but managed to get the tank repaired, I have a spare plastic tank in case I need to do the same . I'm no mechanic but the tank should fit , the plastic tanks are slightly smaller volume and fit with a strap across the underneath where the gt one bolts through , all the pipe work is similar but you may need the filler neck too ,the ring that holds the fuel pump in is a screw on ring where the gt has a bolted down one , I have seen a gt for sale before with a plastic tank on it so I'm sure it's possible. I know the gt fuel pump runs at a higher pressure so I'm not sure if this would be an issue with the tank being plastic .

Ok I'm just looking for a guide to change from the metal gt tank to a basic plastic model. I found a few pictures on photobucket showing the lift pump needing stripped and some parts needing fitting from the lower spec plastic pump to allow the gt pump to fit the plastic tank.

I had tried to repair it with proper fuel tank repair putty but it started leaking again.

think the putty would only be a temporary fix , not sure what you mean about the lift pump ? would think it would be a straightforward swap but using your gt fuel pump in the new tank , as you remove the old tank just be aware some of the rear brake pipes clip onto the top of the tank [emoji106]?

yeah there is no lift pump on a GT, or any mk1 puntos at all - i think you mean the in tank fuel pump into the sender unit of a lower spec punto.

The sender unit that holds the pump is different in the GT to the other models that have a plastic tank. This is not something I have done ever but the list is accumulating fast, I have looked on my eper and the actual filler tube has the same part number as do the seals at the end, the breather hose is same too.
The plastic tank is held on with straps so you would need them and i presume the shell will have the mounting points (but assume nothing, check first!!). You will need the sender unit from a plastic tank too and to either fit your pump into it or find a direct replacement that delivers enough fuel.
Should be pretty easy really if you can find a donor in a scrap yard and get everything in one go, could end up pretty damn expensive if you have to buy new parts, not sure they even sell the plastic tank new, i know the GT tank itself is not available new.

good to know the filler neck is the same [emoji106]?, when I had trouble with my tank I did get a second hand pump , just the little cylinder motor , the bottom of the sender unit unclips to reveal the pump and filter & its pulls out and two spade connections and pipe .
