hi people!!!! i've been offered a black 3dr punto cheap, its a 1995 model & done 75k and its the 55s so thats a 1.1 right? its my work mates so i know loads about it but any advice what to check when i get it would be appreciated? my current car is a 93 uno 1.0ie and thats great in every way so will the punto be as economical/reliable as the uno and is it the same engine as it looks similar. the punto is in great condition with just a few marks here and there but nothin i cant sort out, its got a red key and 1 blue and i've heard bad things about these so do i need to get another cut etc? am picking the car up 2mrw. i've booked it in at local garage for fan belt and timing belt doing as i know these are due for renewal.but any other advice or help would be welcome, the car drove great when i test drove it apart from the fan belt screeching. thanks

well, how much is it? if it has one blue and one red, you might want to get another blue cut but it doesnt really matter, the originally come with 1 red and 2 blue, red for master and blue for general use. yes i would say they are reliable, fuel economy will be the same or better as your uno. are you getting it cheap? becuase of it needing timing belt etc?

hi, yeah i'm gettin it for £350 so i think thats cheap... do u? he's had it for 2 yrs and its been great apart from minor usual stuff needing doing.its got 7 months mot and 5 mnths tax. he never had timing belt done since he had it so my local garage who i've always used are doing it for 65 incl belt & tensioner??? is that right? thanks

it used to cost £50 to have my uno 1.0 belt done so i suppose its a good price and at least its been done so i dont have to worry. how often does the belt need replacing on this engine? i predict i wont have the car more than 3 years anyway and in that time would do around 25k. so i wont need belt doing again while i have it?

i dont know, but the one on my sisters punto from new (1995 punto) broke at 55k, even if it does break while you have it, you just fit a new one and away you go. (y)

hi id say thats very gud price for the punto gud idea to change the belt and tensioner as its the tensioner that brakes down 1st cousing the belt to go regards tom
