i hav been offered a tipo 1.6 DGT and i was going to drop it into ma punto (1.2 75BHP) i know wot needs done like the wiring loom and new engine mounts and other bittys but the thing i was wondering is that i hav heard different BHP's for it like 80BHP 110BHP 100BHP so iam wondering if anyone knows the true BHP of the DGT and do u people think it would be a good idea to fit it cos the insurance for the 1.4 GT is too much so i thought i would put a bigger engine in but not too big (for insurance purposes) so i thought the DGT would be good i hav been told that when the tipo moved it bloody moved for a 1.6 tipo (tank)(so heavy) so i thought it might make ma punto a bit more fun

i would like to hear ur veiws cheers RETTIE

About 85bhp I think. No more than 90.

It would be heavier and is a less free-revving engine than the 1.2 75MPi so I really, really wouldn't bother

i dont hink i will be doing this engine mod now but i want to go a lil fast, how and cheap

you could get a head skim and port/ploished head whileyour are at it, where the head skim will not increase your speed by much if anything, it will raise your sompression which is (y) then you good have a branch LCB manifold made down to a sports cat and stainless steel pipe, (best flow) made and then finish off with a decent induction kit like the ones on a recent thread, and some high pressure injectors, i dont think there is too much you can do on the cheap that would make the punto 75 any faster

the head was skimmed i dont know how much but it was done at the last head gasket was done (with timing belt) wot about injectors off a bigger fiat engine maybe the 1.6 ones might fit like havin the same diameter and fittin snuggley in

I passed my Test in a 1.6 DGT Tipo ! It and I had many adventures and I couldn't kill it.

It snapped a cam belt, bent some valves, got rebuilt, and went better than ever !

Went to the main dealer once and they commented that it was the smoothest running tipo they had ever seen !

It loved to rev and pulled to the red line in each gear!

Stunning engine. It is on a carb though, so should be easily tuneable, but it's an old engine now. Is it still in use in other fiat cars or has it been retired ?

Even gave thought to putting a turbo on it at one time as it's not a million miles away from the 1.4 that was turbo'd in the uno !

the 1.6 punto sporting has the same engine but with injection.

There is one available on ebay for a conversion.

The Klaxion punto which had more than 300bhp was a punto GT head and x19 block (same as above).

So yeah loads of things possible however Klaxion was rumoured to cost more than £50k so it might be time to think more practically... :bang:

Quick for a first car, but I wouldn't like to say now, it was 10 years ago!!

Wouldn't keep up with the Astra GTE's of the time, I remember that much!!
