Hi guys, I recently got a 1994 55SX with 63k on the clock. I have been looking around for a good Punto forum and this seems to be the best!

A couple of questions:

Given the age and mileage, I was going to have the timing belt and tensioner replaced, but having seen a thread that says that the 55 FIRE engine won't be damaged if the belt breaks, is it worth the expense of changing the belt 'just in case'?

The clutch is very sticky when it is nearly fully depressed - it's almost like something is catching when it is 3/4 of the way down. Also there is sometimes a clicking sound when the clutch is fully depressed with the engine in gear and idling. Any ideas?-and will it be more expensive to fix if, or when, it gets worse - or should I just wait to see how it develops? The clutch doesn't seem to be slipping at all and the gearbox changes smoothly.

Thanks for your help.

timing belt i dont really like to say, yes your engine is safe, but do you want to loose all power at 70 onthe motorwar and get large towing bill.

as for the other one. i had identical prob on my mk2 punto and it was diagnosed as clutch release bearing, mine would get stiff about half way down and would click each time it was pressed after the click it would be slightly easier to move rest of way. i drove like it got ages it graduallty got stiffer and then the click got louder at that point i had it sorted with new clutch

Thanks - I will get the timing belt and tensioner changed and wait and see what happens with the clutch.

Cheers
