General Roll call for Punto cabrio owners !

Just found this site! We have had our 16v cabrio from new & Mrs H cannot find anything that she would rather have! She wanted yellow & blue hood, but I said we'd never re-sell it in those colours! (What did I know!) so ours is silver & black hood. Goes really well, only 50k+ miles.
Just realised the engine drive belt hasn't been changed for 10 years! Seems to be a bit of teeth sucking about changing it...How difficult is it?
Will follow this thread with interest. We are an endangered species...We also have an MG ZA (1956) & I think there are more of them "on the road" than PC's!

not a hard job really, get in the timing belt tool off ebay.
I got this one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Engine-Ti...041?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3aa8c68a81

And its really easy, got any questions on the process just start a new thread and ask ;)

was car driven those 10 years or parked?

debunked timing belt change interval?

Car in continuous use as daily driver! Regular oil changes & the odd Italian tune up! I'll hold off the latter until the belt is changed!

Welcome to the club ( so to speak ).

Its great to see so many owners on here, we are a rare breed indeed.

The belt change isnt too hard, but then alot depends on your experience. It can be done without the tool, for what its worth.

Oh and I think we need some piccies........ please, Punto1cab. ;-)

Whereabouts are you ? I have a set, if youre interested.

Cheers bud but I got the ones at auction, I was the only bidder! There being dropped of tomorrow then going get the tyres swapped over. Exhaust should come Friday then give the paintwork a once over with some Autoglym.

To answer your question, I'm I cheshire. Does anyone here know where to have the roof re-covered? Preferably close-ish to me. Had a couple repairs on it and a repair in the back window. The roof is blue and think it would look better black.

Going to look at one tomorrow maybe joining this section! Were there both manual and electric hoods on these?

As far as I am aware, they were only available with electric roofs in the UK. If the motor fails, there is a tap by the hydraulic pump which allows you to operate it manually.

Didn't get to see it today but def tomorrow, he says it's a manual roof, just wondering if he's using the manual override, ie electrics fu..ed.

Bought it today. Nice little car. Few marks but nothing major. Even has original tonneau cover. 65K Mls Needs clutch and exhaust.

Alright for €630 or £455! Now the work begins. Need new back screen and a repair to the edge of the roof material, looks like it was caught in something. All ideas welcome,

Was there a special owners manual for the Cabrio or just a separate book as well as the usual one?

The owners handbook should have a supplement at the back for the Cabrio. The Haynes Manual does not cover the Cabrio, but the Porter manual does. The chafing to your roof looks like the typical cabrio roof problem which also causes splits above where yours is chafed. This is caused by the position of the central roof bar when the roof is lowered. You will find full details on this thread: https://www.fiatforum.com/punto/351131-punto-cabrio-roof-issue.html

If yours is a manual roof, it shouldn't cause you any inconvenience to ensure it opens correctly. The problem comes with powered roofs where you have to stop halfway and position the bar manually.

Nice cabrio, I don't know much about the 1.2 16V version but just your boot to see if you have an oil pump on the right side.

Here's mine, it's a 1.6 90 engine:

Thanks for the input, I knew the Haynes didn't cover it, I didn't get any book with it! Mine is a manual roof, the damage is only on the drivers side. The post about the roof bar is very interesting. That is probably my issue. have it in a shed at the moment to dry the roof before I take it to be repaired, new back screen and the side! Any idea about thee two handles on the sides, one is broken and the other doesn't seem to do anything!

That's a smashing car, you have better than us as well, blowing a gale and lashing rain here for the last 3 days!

Did the Bertone badge and symbol move when the 1.2 was introduced? I've noticed several cars with them on the front wings, are they all 1.6's? Mine aare on the rear panel!
