Can anyone help: I've been driving my lovely R reg mark1 Fiat Punto for about 15 yrs, and soon it will be time for me to upgrade my car, nothing really wrong with the car just age/time. What do people do when they are wanting car insurance for 3 or 6 months?

I'm going to sell my car, at some point, when I find a suitable replacement, but how do you juggle the insurances? It seems the big insurers only do one years and charge silly money to cancel it early or transfer to another car. Why is that?

Any ideas how to resolve this?

If you cancel a policy early you will usually incur a charge, but I have never been charged for transferring insurance from one car to another, I have just had to pay any additional cost due to a higher rate on the new car for the outstanding period of the policy.

:yeahthat: i have swapped my insurance policy from one car to another many times - some companies may charge and admin fee (usually around £25 mark) so ask about it when you take out a policy.

As above, swapped insurance a few times and only ever had to pay the difference + admin fee, or gotten a refund if the new car is cheaper to insure. Usually dependent on the insurer though so ring your up and see what they say
