Ok so I've got a punto 60 team 99. I've only had it a few months but it's always had a problem with the front lights. They are really dim, I had one of the blubs changed but it made no difference. A friend looked at them for me and said that part of the connector to the loom (whatever that means) has melted? I didn't really know what that mean so I just carried on driving it. However, my electrical problems seem to be getting worse. Now sometimes when I start my car the key code warning light stays on, my wipers didn't work on the first click and it cut out a couple of times. I've started it today after being stood for a couple of days, started fine, put the wipers on and they sounded very loud so I turned them off and when I tried to turn them back on they wouldn't work? Any ideas what I should do? I don't really have any car knowledge and can't really afford to take it to a garage either. Any suggestions appreciated.

It sounds as though something has gone a miss in a few places.

The headlamp looms are of H4 type, you just need to order the looms then solder or connect them to the existing headlamp wiring.

The looms have probably melted due to using a bulb which is rated too high.

Something like this is fine. Many cars use H4 style connectors so easy to get hold of. Replace both looms and bulbs and all should be ok. If you can also check the earthing point to the headlamps and give them a good clean.

As for the wipers, if the motor is loud it could have burnt out. I suspect when you turn it on it is blowing the fuse.

Where about in the UK are you from, someone local maybe able to help?

Could be either / or.

But have never had corroded light contacts myself. Just melted contacts due to using things like none o/e bulbs which are rated at 100W like Sportsblues.

Either way a new connector will sort you out.

I had the same problem on my Team.

I traced it to a bad earth, so try removing the battery and battery tray, then remove the battery earth cable from the car. give all of the connectors on it a good going over with sandpaper or a file until you can see shiny metal on them.

Then do the same with the areas surrounding the fixings to the chassis and gearbox.

Clean these areas with some contact cleaner/petrol on a rag, and replace the earth cable dry (no WD40 or grease).

Refit the tray and battery, and be amazed at how all of your electrical items suddenly start working all over again!

Hope that helps...
Posh.
