Hi all,

My 1.6 Sporting has just lunched its head gasket. Too much for the garage to fix so I might aswell have a bash myself. Anyone have any guides? Gaskets easy to get hold of?

Any help would be appreciated!

Yes gaskets are easy to get hold of from a variety of sources. If not online try your local motor factors and ask for a good quality headgasket set.

As far as doing it, it is not such an easy engine to work on as the little FIRE engines, but is still do-able with relative ease.

I highly recommend the set below, good quality and a much better bet than the £20 ebay specials.

Don't have a guide for doing the head but start by removing the inlet manifold and go from there, it is fairly self explanatory.

1.6 isnt in the Haynes, at least not the one I have! No matter now, looks like the old girl has to go, up for sale as breaking in the classifieds if anyone else wants a crack at it.

Thanks for all your help anyway guys!

the old bravo/brava haynes covers the engine, so could be used for working on your engine - few things will be located in different places in bay but will have all the torque settings etc you need.

Well that makes having a crack at it look tempting.... I would be killed mind. I'd love to keep it, once it does go it'll me the first time i've not had a mk1 Punto since I started driving 8 years ago.....

You could buy my complete engine, c/w all ancillaries, 82K, Devon, was going strong at time of removal from car. PM me if interested.
