I think Dave knows a lot more about Thermodynamics than you give him credit for.

It's an old, old joke. A few years ago we more or less chased Dave out of the Cento section for a faux pas involving the Laws of Thermodynamics.

But then, I know bugger all about rabbits (apart from that they're good to eat and can't outrun a lurcher...........)

That's using a battery to charge a battery. Unless your jumper specifically says that it will charge a battery, forget it (the cheap ones won't).

Re: want to charge my battery

you could trickle charge through the cig lighter with one of them solar panels i have seen in the shops... no idea how long it will take from flat and as i mentioned before overcharging batteries is bad and a solar panel will not stop charging once its fully charged..

Battery charger is not alot of money just go buy one.

Unless the Solar Panel has a sensor switch of some kind that tells you its charged?

Hardly any sun at the moment so a solar panel won't do it. A wind turbine on the other hand may do the job. As you have a jump starter just use it whenever you want to start the car until you can have a go and charge the battery with a good drive.

You dont need much sun for a Solar Panel, it works on light that comes from the sun, we call this daylight. It is better with lots of sun and facing south.

Re: want to charge my battery

couldn't say never really looked at one, just seen them in halfords and the like - i know Eklipze3k has one but again never looked at it.

I use a mouse strapped to a small wheel near the battery with a small alternator sending a charge to the battery, unfortunately the cold weather means I have to replace the mouse every night

have you not seen slow down and speed signs that run on solar? they don't stop working in the winter

If you look careful at them they have a wind turbine too. 7 hour of daylight does bugger all. Unless ofcourse you are prepared to put a roof solar panel.
