Hello everyone.

May I ask a quick question. The fuel pump has died on my bog standard 1.7d Punto. My mechanic seems to think that it will be very (i.e. £450) to replace. Now I really don't have a clue about this sort of thing, but I do know how to Google. I found a new one on ebay for £47 delivered.

Am I missing something? The pump fits in the tank right, pumps fuel to the filter and then on to the injectors, and that's it? Or am I missing something.

Thanks if advance.

straight swap like the petrol ones, you can get a brand new one for £50 on flea bay or you could pick a second hand one up from the scrappers for less.

it is easy enough to do yourself as it appears your mechanic is trying to pull a fast one.

Thanks for the info. It turns out that it was the fuel injector pump rather than the fuel pump, which has effectively written the car off as they do seem to be ridiculously dear. Thanks for the help though.

That's the one. It's in a really awkward position and £150 for a reconditioned one if I can find one. I'd be looking at £3-400 to sort it. Which might be worth doing if the engine was sound, but he thinks there's another problem as he couldn't get it started with an ether(or was it ethanol) spray. So it's off to the scrappy. They've offered me £130 quid for it which is better than a poke in the proverbials.
