Sympton: dipped beams both sides work; main beam both sides don't work (suddenly stopped)
Checked: fuses - all good; bulbs - all good; connectors - all good.
How is this possible? If fuses, bulbs and connections OK - how can this be?
Anyone had similar problem? Anyone have any suggestions what to try next?

So your lights all work fine until you go to full beam?
If the light work again when you go off full beam if could be the switches, If the contacts are dying then this can happen. Fairly easy to replace the switches, Haynes guide is often a handy tool for DIY jobs like this(y)

Otherwise it could be an earthing issue, simple fix, just clean the earth leads(y)

Sort of. Main beam works but dipped doesn't.But your suggestions are good ones to follow so I'll give them a go and see if that works.
Thanks

Having thought a bit more about it, it could be as simple as a faulty relay on the column switch:idea:

(Although i've only ever had this problem on a ford, so i've not checked the wiring on the punto to see if there is a relay.)
