Hi guys,

My mk1 punto 1996 P reg was driving along fine and then I heard a big clunk from one of the front wheels. I noticed then that there was a complete lack of power and when I tried accelerating it was dragging as if the handbrake was on or something and with the foot all the way down on the accelerator it was just crawling.

I then pulled up and parked and now the engine won't start at all, it tries to but there's just nothing after the initial sound.

I've checked all leads and they all seem fine, there's plenty of fuel in there.

Any ideas would be much appreicated.

Regards

Matt

The initial sound I meant was the starter motor trying to get it going, after that sound it just dies out. I'm not very advanced with how to check the alternator hasn't seized etc but I have managed to turn the drive belt round by hand.

Thanks for your reply

The head gasket went and blew, no compression in 2 cyliners and a big hole in the gasket, head seems okay but will need skimming, anyone no if you can leave the camshaft on on these fiats while it's skimmed?
