Anyone ever solved the question as to why the Mk1 is such a reluctant sipper when you stop for fuel?
I have to dribble the petrol in. it's embarressing. I have looked through the Haynes manual for a tank breather or the like. Can't find any metion of one.

Any ideas please?

How do you fill it? Have you tried with the filler at different angles

There should be a breather and a one way valve. Maybe the valve is blocked.

Some cars do respond to different filling angles, though.

i always found them a pain to fill
mk2 can be the same especially 2 door i find or is it 4 door?
i hate buying petrol

I just have mine on a slight angle and full squeeze of the trigger and it fills with no problems, is the breather pipe blocked?

I've stood there turning the fuel nozzle inside the tank so much it must have looked like I was trying to wind the car up! theres a thought .... Clockwork Punto!

yeah i have the same problem on my mk2b 3 door. I have to tilt the nozzle at an angle to get any sort of decent flow rate out of it. it takes longer to fill up than my RX8 lol.
