Service is due on my mk1 punto 60s

Basically i want to do an extensive as possible service as i dont know what the car has had done before.

What would you guys suggest i.e. oil type etc etc. the plugs , timing belt, and head gasket have been replaced and flushed coolant system.

so is it just an oil change?

Also does anyone know what the grey button beside the passenger seat is for. it has a petrol pump with an line through it.

Thanks

MArtin

Do a search, there are threads that are on going at the moment with all the information that you need.

The grey button is your fuel cut off switch by the way.

hi, i have carried out my own car services for over 20 years. on a petrol its the right grade of quality oil, usualy a good semi-synthetic is more than adequate unless you drive a sports car. i use valvoline myself, new oil filter every change, air filter every 2 years, pollen filter every 12 months if fitted, spark plugs (but you say they been done), i also fit new bosch wiper blades every year. if you go to a car factors ( i use autoparts), cost on a full service is around £50 for parts). other than that i wd40 door locks & rub on some castrol clear grease onto all door & boot hinges.
check all fluid levels & top uo screen wash.....& your good to go!

only goes off usually if car gone over a major speed bump or hit a wall, dont worry about it
with regards servicing if major parts on engine already done like plugs then an oil and filter will give it the elixior of life for another year:)

thanks for all the replies.

the car is 1998 has 60k miles.

i recently replaced the head gasket and with the all the belts and tensioner. ( i over looked the water pump when doing this but the timing belt was done at 48k and there was a water pump put in then. ) and the plugs and the thermostat.

was wondering if there was anything else i could have a look at seeing that i was going at it.

( in case anyone is wondering the timing belt was replaced with the head , the car is a real frankenstein bodge job. there is nothing in the car that was not interfered with .and the timing belt and head was replaced at 48k. who ever replaced the head over tightened the rocker cover and pinched the seal andoil has been seaping out all over the belts. the rocker i found later was twisted due to overtightening. and the belts were ruined. )

Rocker cover gaskets leak if re-used so the less educated pull them up tighter and make matters worse. But new covers and gaskets are not costly.

i did not reuse the gasket i replaced it when i replaced the head.

it leaks a small bit but not as much as before.

Oil change,
Air filter,(get a K&N panel filter) :D
Plugs (they are cheap enough)
Strip+clean+copper grease front brakes (caliper slider's seize all the time) Replace as necessary,
Strip and check rear brakes+adjust hand brake,
Check brake fluid condition (colour) If dark give give it a good bleed and flush though.
Grease the end if the clutch fork arm.
Possibly check ignition timing, if you can on them Punto's, i don't know
