Steven's Mk1 Punto Progress Thread

I'm going to use this thread to document my progress on my Mk1 Punto. It's a 1999 Punto S with the 1242cc 8v engine. I bought it at the end of last week and it needs a few jobs done to it. The car has just under 75000 miles on it and unfortunately at some stage it has fallen into the hands of a chav. So the car needs tidied and de-chaved.

Overall it's not too bad. The bodywork is pretty good and mechanically it's good having been serviced recently and had a new clutch and timing belt.

Here's the car:

It's MOTed until July 8th 2011, so the idea is to have it sitting 100% by then.

The chavvy seat covers need to come out, I haven't seen the seats below yet, fingers crossed they are decent.

The engine seems to be running well, it had fresh oil, filters and spark plugs less then 500 miles ago. A coolant change is near the top of my to do list though. The engine bay could also do with a good clean.

I'm still very unsure about the alloys. I haven't decided whether to keep them or to get hold of a set of original steel wheels and fit them. I might be interested in a swapping them for a set of steelies with good tyres and original wheel trims if anyone fancies them.

Another job which I want to do asap is to paint the brakes black. They are currently a chavtastic shade of red.

Re: Steven's Mk1 Punto Progress Thread

The most important job though is to repair the sills. In the usual Punto spot the passengers side sill has completely rotted out. The drivers side isn't far behind. It's booked in for next Tuesday to have the sills welded and then I'll apply copious quantities of Waxoyl to stop it from happening again.

Sorry about the crap photo, I'll take better ones later.

Re: Steven's Mk1 Punto Progress Thread

About 2 years ago I bought an original and unused Punto Mk1 Linea Accessorie roofrack. I didn't have a Mk1 to fit it to, so I went digging in the garage, dusted it off and fitted it. I think it looks well.

Re: Steven's Mk1 Punto Progress Thread

I cut the crappy seat covers off today. The seats aren't bad, they could just use a clean. Annoyingly, someone has burnt a hole in the drivers seat with a cigarette. Overall I'm happy enough though, they should clean up nicely.

Here is a better photo of the rust hole in the sill. It's pretty bad. Can't wait to get this fixed next week.

I second that the alloys brighten it up think it looks a pretty tidy motor, is the roof rack going to stay on there all the time??

Re: Steven's Mk1 Punto Progress Thread

Brakes painted red and those bloody seat covers = chavtastic. Just my opinion of course. The roofrack is off now. I just wanted to see if it fitted. Still not sure about the alloys, not sure why.

Re: Steven's Mk1 Punto Progress Thread

needs lowered thats why wheels look strange.

keep eye on ebay or classifieds for a plain black/dark grey GT interior they go for around 50 or less these days. keep a look out in scrappys for clear front indicators, they was stardard o a lot of mk1's so not chav.
40 is patch sill. 100-150 is fit new price
