I brought my first car home last night after it being parked in a family members garden for nearly 2 years. It's an Punto MK1 and nearly 2 years ago I was told the headgasket was blown in it. The car just stopped and wouldnt start again. As I needed the car for work I just bought a different car from a dealership so i'd have a warranty because if I got the head done on the Punto something else could of gone. Anyway I heard recently that the head doesnt stop the car from starting up so I decided to turn the car into a project car. My problem i'm having is the clutch is spongy whenever I press on it the clutch hits the floor. Any ideas what it is? Also whatelse should I change on the car now I have it back? I wanna see if it starts first though before I start buying crap for it. I should change the coolant, oil, refill the petrol, change the brake discs and pads.. anything else? Thanks everyone

Dont spend any money. After than much time there could be all sorts of problems. Fixing the list below is likely to cost way more than the car is worth.

Check the body for rust look in all the usual places and everywhere else.
Battery will be shot - replace
Exhaust will be shot - replace
Any fuel in the tank will be useless so the tank must be drained.
Also check inside the tank for rust
Brake pipes may well rusty somewhere hidden dont trust them until 100% checked
Brake hoses cracked - replace
Wheel cylinders siezed - replace
Brake discs pitted with rust - replace
Tyres cracked - replace
Wheel corroded - repaint (maybe)
Seats and trim mouldy
After all that engine seals will go off with age and may well start to leak when the car is used.
The cam belt and alternator belt will certainly be cracked and useless
If the engine had proper coolant the internal corrosion would be ok. If it had old coolant or water who knows what's gone on inside with ice damage and corrosion.

The clutch action is probably the hydraulics see where the fluid is leaking out. If not the clutch itself may have failed.
