Mk1 1997 Punto 55s 1.1L

May seem a bit odd but none of our puntos, mk1 or mk2 would start at 16:20 ish...:confused:

After a min had passed they were both fine again? :confused:
This has happened before where any of the puntos with an ecu wont start - noth just ours but every punto on our road. at this same time none would start??? :confused:

we have a 1997 mk1 & 2004 mk2, the other on our road are 2004 mk2 & 2005 mk2... odd:p

Anyway, back to the mk1. recently it hasn't start very well. i.e passed 2 days.
attempt 1 - it started, then stalled. (cold) (n)
attempt 2 - it started, moved, then stalled (cold) (n)
attempt 3 - started but sounded rough (cold) :(

later that day
attempt 1 - started fine no issues ran perfect (Cold) (y)

Later..
attempt 1 - started fine no issues (Warm) (y)


Next day
Attempt 1 - started no issues (cold) (y)

Later..
attempt 1 - started but after 20 mins a rattle sound from ENGINE (not the exhaust - exhaust rattles at back and sound was Clearly different) (warm) :(

Later....
attempt 1 - started and ran perfect (cold / warm) (y)

Next day - (today)
The car started fine and ran perfectly under this after noon.
The engine was shaking alot after starting the engine cold / warm - this was after the car had been used to cover around 20 miles eailer today, it had been parked for a few hours.

after restarting the engine the shaking stopped and the car ran fine... until.....

Started it about 1 hour ago, all seemed fine but alittle off, going up the road less than 200m the car judders and jerks, like it does when it runs out of petrol :p anyway, i manage my journey all of 1 mile:p. drop off my passenger and come back.

On my way back it feels down on power (Only a little so instead of running engine at idle most of the time i rev it alittle - like you would normally(y)) this works until i get to the end of my road. this time it jerks and judders ALOT as if the engine had just cut out then bump started it'self form the momentum :confused:

My guess is the ingintion coils on the way out, the feul system is clean - so i belive (y) - the car transmission seems alittle noisey aswell so im going to change gear oil. any thoughts on this issue - max budjet for any parts & repair is £40 so a garage is out(y)

and water has been found under the car? it's not rained and it is just plain water?? front right wheel area? no pipes near there so im thinking someones messing with my car :mad:
 
Bad to worse :(

Car seemed quite bouncy today. after it rained the puddle that was under my front right wheel showed its colours meaning it's oil. Checked the shocks. Front right has gone (n) Broken :(

Engine seems to be missing a bang every so often, was very noisy at the lights (n)

New shocks at £40 each at the front looks like im going be driving a broken car for a while :bang:
 
with all your puntos not startin, do you live near any radars or air bases, anything military, i've heard cars not starting when radars ect are started up or are turned up to full power,

Add mobile phone masts etc to that list - heard reports of a black spot where lots of remote keys stop working properly - 50 metres further down the road is OK ?
 
Some stuff in amessy order - :eek:

Rule out the easy stuff -
Leak might be the windscreen washer RHS when looking from front of bonnet (passenger side of car in UK).

One by one take out each spark plug and hold it against the engine block while someone cranks the starter. If one plug is faulty it will affect sparks on its partner plug. Coils fire plugs in pairs 1&4 and 2&3. Never take out both plugs on one coil and crank the starter as the coil back EMF can blow the ECU.

If plugs are ok and there are no obvious leaks the HG starts to look possible. If coolant is blowing over the vent into the tank its possible the head gasket has gone, but they can also go between cylinders.

Coolant. Drain it and flush with clean water a couple of times. Bleed it properly and start the engine. If its dripping elsewhere find the leak and get it fixed. Ordinary RadWeld is ok for simple rad leaks but get a new RAD ASAP. Avoid any of the (allegedly) high tech stuff like WonderWeld or K Seal they will mess your engine up for good.
When leak is fixed, drain the water add 2.5 lites of coolant and top up with water. Always bleed the system.

If the HG has blown and leaked coolant into the sump the oil will also have to be changed.
 
Nope all looks good :(

All spark well (y)

Coolent appears to be leaking at the pipes that go into the cabin (Heater mabey)

Front shock has been checked by garage and they say it has definetly gone (n)

The slightly off idle, they say it might the spark plugs having the wrong gap :confused: they were checked before fitting though.

HG isn't leaking on outside and no result on the sniff test either (y)

The car is usable and i could sell it on as if nothing happerning but i'm used to keeping the cars in Perfect working order so a little fault like it has (Un-noticable to passengers) is more anoying then anything :(
