so im changing the timing belt on my mk1 1.2ltr 16v punto... But i need the cam locking tools... The only ones i can find are 80 - 90 pounds.. And dont quite fancy forking out that much... Anyone got any ideas?
Many thanks

That is roughly how much they are although you can apparently get them for as low as £50.
Only other thing is to make your own markings but it's riskier and can end up costing alot more that £80

You can make your own, but from my experiance buy two cam locking tools.I paid £40 for two from fiat. They are very accurately machined and need to be a quality fit.
The piston positioning tools can be basic as long as you are spot on with the measurement when setting the passing point of the rising and falling pistons. You need, as you probably know , min two rods, the same length and of coarse the Haynes manual. (y)

I paid £50 for HGT (1746cc) locking tools.

To fit the 1200 they are around £25 from S4P.

Dont try it without the tools as both cams and crank must hold still while the belt is attached and tensioned. WHen the tools are on you will see how the cam lobes line up, but no way could you set it right without them
